Hey All!Opinions PLEASE!!!I have had a major filling done to my tooth and I thought everything was well until I found out that my tooth kept on hurting (especially at night & hot, cold stuff) so I went to an emergency dentist and he looked and told me it is probably a "dying nerve" so I thought it would just die, no pain, end of story!Until he told me he would give me a one week dose of antibiotics and if the infection inside did not clear and the pain was there I should come back and have a Emergency Root Canal Operation. That stunned me and I am worried. He says it is the last thing before extraction. What should I do - extraction or operation???For anyone who has had a Root Canal Operation can you tell me what is it like. Painful or OK???Please Help!Cheers, Mikee

I had root canal treatment a few weeks ago, and was petrified, and it was nothing. honestly, there is no more pain than the injection you would have for a filling, tho the dentist may go into the roof or bottom of the mouth if its needed and that hurts a little more than normal. They fix a bit of rubber, a dam, to stop bacteria in your saliva getting into the root as they do it, and it takes a little while longer to do than a normal filling, but, honestly, there is no more pain at all than a usual filling........you'll be fine hon hugs

I worked in a dentist office for a few years. A Root Canal (RCT) is nothing to be concerned about. Like Angel said the "worst" part is just the injections they'll give to numb the area. After that you'll feel nothing. There is the chance of a Palatal shot (A shot to the roof of the mouth) if the tooth is an upper tooth, but this is not always needed.I strongly believe in saving a tooth if possible. An extraction should always be last resort.Any other questions please don't hesitate to ask. But seriously an RCT is nothing to be concerned over. It's minor and well worth doing to save the tooth.

dont worry ! even I had an RCT done two years back.. It does give a slight pain but at least your problems are put to rest. Go ahead with the operation. It nothing major as such.
