Restart?

I dont the school giving ANYone a free comop, but if you put in a windows 98 disc, or an xp disc it would start from scratch
-
If it's Win98, then you can just hit cancel at the prompt and it will start. Then you can do a search in c:/windows for *.pwl Delet all of those files and reboot. When it asks for a username and password upon restart, put in a username but no password. You won't be asked to log in again.
If the password is in the BIOS, then you need to find the jumper on the motherboard and reset the BIOS. Kind of hard to do unless you have the manual or can find it online.

ahh dude my bad i tried that and i found it its actually windows 2000 my bad *i got confused cuz on the side pannel it says 98. thanks for the help though, but do you know about how to do it on windows 2000?

yea my brother was on high honor roll and the school was giving them away to a select few becuase they were already getting upgraded ones, thats why and i dont have either disk...thanks for the help though!

One should have come with the computer you can, or you have to go buy them. (and i still dont believe they just gave you a computer lol)

It would probably be easiest to ask someone in the technology department there to take the password off.If you don't want to do that, there are other options. Like SDP said, if it's a bios password you'll have to remove a jumper on the motherboard, usually marked "pwd", and start the computer. If it's a hard drive password you should probably just go talk to someone who knows because you'll have to send it back to the company. If it's an OS password then you can reload it and it will be fine.

ooo alright...how do i do In reply to: remove a jumper on the motherboard and how do i know if its an os password or a bios password?- sry i dont know anything about computers lol thanks for the help
-
Why didnt you just ask like another person who recieved a computer also??
-
Someone in the CIS or technology department will be able to help you. It's hard for me to describe.

If windows starts up and you have a graphical display with a prompt for a username/password then it's a standard operating system login and not a BIOS login. A BIOS login is usually a blank screen and just asks for a password, not a username. I did a quick search. Read this: http://www.computing.net/windows2000/wwwboard/forum/60783.html

I'm not a techy really but I know my way around PCs and one of my mates asked me to do this for him just last week. His sister also uses his PC and she got pissed off at him, changed the password, then wouldn't tell him what it was. Like you, he uses W2K professional (as do I - best _Windows_ OS around, so far).
I went to this site and followed the instructions. Took me less than 20 minutes in total and he was back in.

It's really easy, just be sure to read all the instructions carefully. The best option is simply to BLANK the password. Then take the disc out, restart and enter the username as administrator but don't put a password in. Press enter and you'll be in. Then you can set up your accounts as you want them.
Good luck
p.s. I forgot to say you'll need access to a second PC in order to browse to the site and create the disc but since you're on here, you've obviously got access to a second PC anyway so please ignore this
