Especially in this era. People are starting to know less about the way things work b/c technology is making life "easier" For some reason people are getting, lazier, and just losing their street smarts.

Room?

People are getting more poorly educated and less knowledgeable of and interested in science, so everything seems to be driven by some inexplicable magic, and you have adults convinced that their houses are haunted. The "alien abductions" are another matter. No wonder Internet fraud is so easy to commit.

In reply to: But I do like the Twilight Zone TV show. I personally agree with Steve on this matter, if he is talking about the old ones.
-
Steve I think you and I have found similar agruments on this one. It is quite sad to see people lose interest in the sciences, and it does string out into other fields as well. Mathematics has a dwindling base of followers, Writers, not the ones who claim to write like the movie stars, but true honest writes who spend their time to make good novels, and finally people who can imagine, more and more people depend on things that have been done on a movie screen or in a tv show or comercial, to consider it original or cool.

I am indeed. Rod Serling rocks my world.

Steve, your welcome to be skeptical. But until you've experienced this sort of activity for yourself, then you have no idea. If you've encountered these things to the extent of people such as myself, then you WOULD believe. When mugs start tapping, your bed shakes, and your hear footsteps upstairs when your the only one home... You very much believe in paranormal activity - and this doesn't even include the MANY other occurances; the presenses felt - being physically tapped, pushed and once strangled (although very lightly). Not to mention the three ghost sightings (one which was seen by a family friend, the other two by myself). I've tried to be sceptical about it, I've tried to look for answers. But when objects start making sounds right infront of you, there is NO explanation. I had my first paranormal experience since I was four. I experience them most days. My mother has experienced similar things too. As for presences, this is one of the occurances that happens the most. It will just feel as if someones entered the room with you. You can tell where they are, get a vague idea whether they're sitting or standing, and you'll know if they're looking at you - just as you would if there was a real person there. You can feel them move around. It's not just a case of "this place doesn't feel good" as it is when you feel bad energys within a room. For me, it's MUCH more distinct than that when theres a spirit involved. I think sometimes you have to keep an open mind and except there is no scientific explanation for these things. I have so much first hand experience that the supernatural exists. I'm a firm believer. Yet I'll still look for an explaination for an occurance, before accepting that it's supernatural. For me it's not frightening. More interesting. I believe that some of the ghosts in my house consist of my dad, a strange women who used to linger in my room (a sad, desperate spirit), my deceased older brother, and another man who has been sighted downstairs. Some people might believe that it's all in my head, and that it "comforts me" to believe that the spririts of dead family members are still with me. Wrong. I'd much rather they cross over, and rest. However, they havent done us any serious harm, and have rarely scared me. When they decide to make themselves noticed, I'm able to deal with it, and it's become somewhat the norm.In conclusion, I accepted a long time ago that there's something else. However, events and occurances I'll be skeptical about, until theres no possible explaination for them. Only then will I deem them as supernatural.

In reply to: u can have some of my school work crap! Hell no, I'm about to start my final year, I have a massive exam at the end of the year that will decide what I willl be doing for te rest of my life. I just hope my luck doesn't run out.. (see, I'm staying on topic!)

Jay18, Steve is a lost cause. If you don't believe in what he believes in you are "irrational" and full of BS. He cannot simply accept that fact there are different beliefs out there and it's okay for people to have different views. He hasn't grasped that concept yet in life. He's rather judge a person harshly than to even start to see their point of view.
-
So you've got that vibe too? I'm sorry, but I believe in the paranormal because I've wittnessed it first hand. Yeah people think I may be crazy because I say that, but oh well, I know what I've seen and there was absolutly no explination for it (no matter how hard I tried to find one).
-
Nonsense. There is no evidence or proof you could be shown that would dissuade you from your fun and interesting beliefs. If someone have be hard cold evidence than I'd believe it. But the point of fact is there is no factual evidence, just a lot of theories and suggestions. I have my belief and you have your belief.. neither is irrational.>> Again please feel free to think its "ittational" but also have respect for those that disagree and believe in things that even science cannot explain.>So then no beliefs up up for criticism? Are gays the spawn of satan? Are blacks evil? Where do you draw the line? What does any of that have to do with positive and negative energies or "ghosts" ?? There are parts of life which make sense and have facts to back it up. Like Gays are not spawns of satan, nor blacks are evil.. we are all human. But the point of the matter is when it comes to energies and such there is no hard facts on either said of the spectrum, just a lot of theories.>To you, there is no such thing as an irrational belief. The word "rational" is not in your vocabulary. That is just intellectual laziness. Seriously, what else would you call believing something because no one has yet shown you falsity of your belief? How long did it take you to get past the Tooth Fairy and Santa Clause?First off, no need to be rude (though I know thats your nature, apparently what makes you feel good about yourself), the word rational is in my vocabulary. "That is just intellectual laziness", sorry i find it lazy to always believe what society whats you to belief. coming up with your other theories and beliefs is more challenging. I simply cannot understand why you have to judge people just because they do not have the same views that you do. Life is full of people with different ideas. It was makes the world interesting. I certainly would not call a person who "what else would you call believing something because no one has yet shown you falsity of your belief?" Irrational, just means they have a more indepth thought. It's not a bad thing sometimes Steve. Also "How long did it take you to get past the Tooth Fairy and Santa Clause?" Never believed in either. My mother has always worked in the dental field and I was to "Clever" for the Santa Claus routine. I was reading by the age of 4 years old lol, so I discovered at an early age the legend of Santa Claus. (even learned the true story of Santa Claus, the real one lol)>Go ahead and believe what you want to believe, but if you ever get a position where your ideas influence government policy, I will be pissed. Thanks for your permission LoL. And who knows, I have never been against working for the government. And guess what?? There is a whole department in the government that deals with supernatural happenings, inclusing UFO's.

Yeah people think I may be crazy because I say that, but oh well, I know what I've seen and there was absolutly no explination for it (no matter how hard I tried to find one). I sure do. I don't get it everytime I walk into a house, But there are certain times I get a chill or a feeling of something is really wrong. And yeah people look at you weird when you say that, but yet these are the same people who witnessed something similar but refuse to be honest about it.

Well I will admit that I've seen things. I was spending the weekend at a friends house while her parents were away and some really strange things happened. Once we were sitting in her bedroom floor playing cards and I kept telling her that her room felt odd, it felt like there was someone there with us. Well she'd just laugh and she told me not to worry about it when all of a sudden her candle flew off the dressor and landed in the floor beside us. I was a bit creeped out and I suggested we go outside because I was a bit uncomfortable being in her room and right before we left her bedroom she turned and looked to the middle of her room and said "Stop toying with us, you know I don't like it. Put the candle back." That really made me nervous, but I didn't think anything of it as soon as we went outside. Well a little while later we came back in and her candle was sitting back on her dressor. She couldn't have done it, nor could I because we were the only ones there and neither one of use left each other's side. So if we didn't do it, who did?

I find it funny. Like I stated, the mind is very good at making things happen. It is your mind that controls what we see, hear, feel, and do. The mind is also very weak, being open to suggestion. If you are in the dark or put some thought in your mind then you will see things of the supernatural. I can only imagine that it is called the supernatural because we do not understand it yet, and it may be awhile b/c we are still understanding our world and what occurs on it everyday.
-
I respect your opinion.. many people have the same opinion. I'm a very logical person (though Steve will disagree) not to mention I am Analytical (atleast when it comes to my job). And yes the mind is a vey powerful tool and to a weak person can be easily acceptable to suggestion. But those types of people are also the type that generally are easily hypnotised. I personally have tried to be hypnotised and both times it failed.I can tell the difference between feeling weird because I'm just uncomfortable and having the feeling of negative/positive energies in a room, they have two totally different feelings. Like I said I don't have these sensations everytime I enter a room/house. I'm no where near a medium or anything. And yes I do believe in mediums. There is a lot of the mind we do not understand. There is a lot of the universe we don't understand. And to simply wave everything off as "irrational" that doesn't seem to make since I think is a bit foolish and arrogant really.

Like Gays are not spawns of satan, nor blacks are evil.. we are all human. That's just your theory. Prove it.> But the point of the matter is when it comes to energies and such there is no hard facts on either said of the spectrum, just a lot of theories. You are utterly ignorant about science. If you weren't, you wouldn't say that.> the word rational is in my vocabulary. Too bad you don't know what it means. Look it up.> Santa Clause...Tooth FairyI don't know why you don't believe these things. They are every bit as rational as your belief in ghosts. Maybe they're too widely accepted already.> Life is full of people with different ideas. It was makes the world interesting. I certainly would not call a person who "what else would you call believing something because no one has yet shown you falsity of your belief?" Irrational, just means they have a more indepth thought. There's a difference between an "idea" and a "belief" that you can't seem to fathom. For instance, the idea that shark cartilage and peach pits will cure cancer are amusing ideas, but belief in those ideas will likely kill you. Some people have the idea that some races are inferior to others. Eve though you might not believe it, does it make them more interesting?> THere is a whole department in the government that deals with supernatural happenings, inclusing UFO's.Must be the folks in charge of the federal budget. Are they down the hall from the Department of Unicorns, next to the Ministry of Silly Walks? The issue that come up over and over again is that to you, every idea has equal merit, and objective truth is rubbish. Everyone can believe whatever they want, and that's fine. If you don't like the idea of not knowing, then it's perfectly fine to make something up and believe it. Flat Earth? No problem. Mega doses of vitamin C and E? Great, it cures all kinds of stuff, right? As long as you believe it, basically it's true.I'm afraid that Newton's ideas on the physical universe are not on the same plane as your muddleheaded ideas on spirits. Not all ideas are equal, and some beliefs are subjective and arbitrary. That your beliefs comfort you doesn't make them rational. How would you characterize the continued belief in an idea that can't stand up to scrutiny?
-
/sigh this is so stupid that you always have to argue over everything but here we go :
>> Like Gays are not spawns of satan, nor blacks are evil.. we are all human.
>That's just your theory. Prove it.
because I'm gay and I know I'm not a spawn of Satan LoL. I'm a Christian who prays every night and lord knows I haven't been caught on fire yet LoL. Are you saying you think we're spawns of Satan??
>> But the point of the matter is when it comes to energies and such there is no hard facts on either said of the spectrum, just a lot of theories.
>You are utterly ignorant about science. If you weren't, you wouldn't say that.
Again the name calling starts, shows yor true educational level. And its not ignorance, there is no hard facts on either spectrum. There are theories and speculations, that's it. Again lvoe how you resort to name calling, real classic.
>> the word rational is in my vocabulary.
>Too bad you don't know what it means. Look it up.
Look up the word acceptance and tolerance. Two terms you apparently do not have in your vocabulary.
>Must be the folks in charge of the federal budget. Are they down the hall from the Department of Unicorns, next to the Ministry of Silly Walks?
yeah something like that *rolls eyes*
Point is Steve you continue to argue that you know known of this is true but yet YOU cannot back that up either. Youa re so arrogant and full of yourself that you can sit there telling people they are ignorant and irrational but yet you cannot back up your idea on this matter either. So what makes you ideas or theories better than my own??
-
Soon, your argument will descend into "la la la la I'm not listening" In reply to: >> But the point of the matter is when it comes to energies and such there is no hard facts on either said of the spectrum, just a lot of theories no name calling here but if this statement were true there would be a hell of a lot of stuff that doesn't work, including this interweb thinggy so any messages you see here are a figment of your imagination. Please don't stop beleiving, I'd hate to suddenly disapear
-
Not everything that can't (yet) be proven false is worth believing. It's OK to say, "I don't know." In fact, when it comes to "supernatural" phenomena, it's ignorant not to. You just don't understand the difference between proving something true and proving something false, which means that you should not partipate in any argument where logic comes into play.
Look up the word solipsism to understand where I think you're coming from.
By the way, prove that you're not the spawn of Satan.
-
I just have to say that saying that all all the laws we know of, like gravity and magnetism. Stuff like that is a theory b/c in science a theory is tried and tested. It has be proven true over and over and does not have anything to prove against it, hence it being a theory.
