My computer monitor is making a funny buzzy noise loudly when its on, and not so loudly (but still there) when its off. No this is not normal, it didnt buzz before today. And it also makes funny wave like motions on the screen (like when a tv is on a bad channel) Any Ideas?

Monitor Malfunction

If you're not in Poland, toss it out and get an LCD screen. You can get a nice 19" (1280 x 1024) one for $300 or less. If you are in Poland, it sounds like your monitor is on its way out...you might need to get another, but someone might be able to fix it cheaply.A remote possibility is that someone messed with the display setting on your PC:settings --> control panel --> displaysettings tabadvancedmonitor tabWhat is the resolution of your monitor? What is the refresh rate?
-
unplug it, wait 30 seconds. make sure it is not connected to your computer and turn it on, wait for about 5 minutes and then plug it back in to the computer.
-
If that doesn't work, you can smack it around and show it who's boss.
-
Steve, 17" goes up to 1280 x 1024 AND they go OVER 300. in display controls it does not give the highest res OR the refresh rate. changing computer settings will not change the sound the monitor gives out
-
Im still in poland, i might have to buy a new one when i get home or just live off my laptop,My display settings are 1024x768, and i dunno the refresh rate (i couldnt find it) Its also a windows XP tne monitor is a MAG Innovision, and i think it was only $300 and i bought it...Around chanukah last year.
-
YAY! I love you! I wanna have your babies! lmao jk jk But, thank you!!!!!!! It works now!!!!!!!!
-
Steve, 17" goes up to 1280 x 1024Yes, but 19" is a lot nicer than 17", and not much more expensive. I'm talking about LCD panels here.> AND they go OVER 300. inI don't think most people need a 300" monitor, if that's what you mean.> display controls it does not give the highest res OR the refresh rate. What? You should set refresh rate not to exceed the capablility of the monitor. You should set the resoloution to the higest comfortable (for your eyes) value. No modern graphics card should be challenged by 1024 x 768, no matter what color depth or resolution is chosen.> changing computer settings will not change the sound the monitor gives outNot necessarily true, expecially if the monitor is screwed up. I'm talking about CRTs here.
-
correction, if you are resourceful and search around you can find 19 inch monitors for less than 300.
-
Cure for malfuntioning electroncs = power cycle (a lot of the time, anyway). You actually shipped a CRT to Poland? I'm at home and I'm just using my laptop screen. Are you sure you want to have a child now?
-
nah, thats a period after the sentance i think.
Anyways, glad its solved. Personally, I wouldn't get LCD screens yet. CRT monitors have MUCH better resolution and the only downside is weight, but if you have someone strong (like me :P) around, its not really a problem.
-
Well, i figure that i can use the kid to get guys to notice me and tell me how beautiful i am to be a mom. lmao jk jkand, I did smack it and the buzzing got louder when i did that. Thank god its fixed now.
-
> CRT monitors have MUCH better resolution and the only downside is weight,
I think you're a few years behind the times. You can hardly even find CRTs to buy now. The downside of CRTs are weight, heat, and power consumption. You're telling me that a 20" 1600 x 1200 ($450 at Costco) is not good resolution? LCDs are also much faster than they used to be, good for gaming, though serious game players usually use CRTs. But serious graphics / image processing industrial design people and photographers are now using LCD panels (often the Apple panels, but there are other professional-quality ones).
-
How Now, I had a CRT last me 10 years.
-
well use a monitor to its extremes it wears out...I would know...it sucks.
-
I was about to suggest a maual degauss which most computer CRTs have in there built in settings. The reason they have this setting is because they are often left on for ever. Most TVs (this is old school electronics) automatically degauss when switched off.Sorry, rambling....
-
Or... I paid 80 bucks for the monitor i use now. Its max is somewhere around 2000x1400 ish. nice refresh rate. At the moment, the only advantage to a LCD is lesser weight and thin. Only two i can think of.Hardly ever buy CRTs now? Maybe in stores, but online there are thousands, and thats where I got three of the same type i'm using for a total of $180.

I degaussed my monitor and they guys in your avatar now have long penises. Must've been an anomaly on the left side of my screen.
-
:smirk: you should degauss more often baby
