why do some people who commit suicide, Drink alcohol before they do it? I mean, I think they have it in there mind to kill them selfs before they start the drinking, because of whats happening around them, before the alcohol did anything. does it give them a comfort zone or block there minds of other things, or something? I just got done watching a movie, where she drank than shot herself, but there was issues going on before she started drinking. And while i was going to the bathroom..Lol..i was trying to figure out why they drank first.i hope this one made sense =]]

Just wondering.

I think it probably makes it easier because drinking can give you that "who gives a fuck" attitude and make you do stupid things. Therefor making the Suicide easier, when as your sober you may bail at the last minute.Idk tbh that is just my guess. Ive been an Alcoholic before and ive been Suicidal before, but Ive never been both at the same time so i cant give a real answer.

It's something only a dead person could answer.

i probably want word this too good (or right) but it’s all a mind thing. when that person (be careful with movies cuz they can give a false perception) was drinking they might not have been at the lowest point. Their mind might have been at the I wanna die…I wanna die and even thinking on how to do it but not at the do it mind set yet. I can’t explain it but I know it.. I’ve felt it. Maybe that person thought the drink would help and make fill better. it’s why I huffed. To make myself happy and to fill better. Same reason’s different substances. I’ve survived suicide attempts, 2 of them put me in the hospital, I been on suicide watch so many times… I can’t count them. None of those times I did anything b4.. I just did it on the spur of the moment. Not that I hadn’t been thinking about it b4 hand ..just that’s when my head told me to do it.

They don't call alcohol 'liquid courage' for nothing. I'd imagine it either makes you feel braver, or give you the courage to do it.But also, it could make you so drunk that you fail at the attempt. A woman I know cheated on her husband and drove him to suicide, but he got drunk before he did it. He flinched as he pulled the trigger and the bullet missed his brain, going through his left eye, then the bridge of his nose, then the other eye. Obviously, he's now blind. Tragic story.

I think people simply do that because it may make it easier. Like the above poster said, it gives them courage, if you want to call it that.Compare this:a) Pointing a gun at your head, consciously thinking about killing yourself. Someone at that point will think many things, including things like "will it hurt?", "what if this doesn't work?", "is this what I really want to do?", "what will my family/friends/etc. think?"b) Getting drunk, pointing a gun at your head and not being sober enough to think about the above things. It's a simple "I want to kill myself, now I pull the trigger" instead of "I want to kill myself" then think about all those "last minute questions" and then pulling the trigger.

thanks guys on your views of things.
I guess the reason this question really stuck to me was because my uncle committed suicide, and he drank before he did so.
you helped me understand better.
big thanks!
