Something I've been paranoid about lately is a pain in my left testicle. It feels fine when I am just sitting around, doing "every-day" activities, but when I touch it, I feel a very intense pain. This has only been occurring since yesterday, but I've had milder cases of this before. In middle school, one of my PE teachers horrified me with a story about a young man he knew who died because one night while he was sleeping, his testacle rotated, twisting the tube shut. He started having pain, but didn't tell anyone about it, and so he died. Since hearing that story, I have been extremely paranoid of this happening to me, and I am worried that that is what is happening now. If anyone knows anything about this sort of incident, please speak up.

Testicular Pain

Testicular torsion is nothing new. It is very serious. I don't know about the dieing part, but you can lose a testicle if it is not fixed. If you have intense pain you need to see a doctor. It can be anything from an infection to torsion.

You see, seeing a doctor is the problem. I'm 18 years old, and I am in limbo right now, staying with my parents at my grandparents' house before I move into my dorm for college in a few days. I tried to get my mom to arrange a physical for me, but the folks at the university health clinic said that you don't need a physical unless you are participating in a sport. Since I'm not in a sport, there went my main opportunity to see a doctor. I know, I could explain the situation to one of my parents, but obviously, since I'm at THIS website, whose specialty is health issues that are embarrassing to talk to other people about, it would be very difficult for me to do so(my parents and I don't have too open of a relationship). Even if I did tell them, I am sure they would not take it seriously, telling me that it is probably nothing serious and that it will pass. So, the chances of me seeing a doctor within the next few days looks pretty unlikely. After googling testicular torsion (by the way, thank you for the information, sdp) I discovered that it is usually preventable if you treat it within six to eight hours. It's been over twenty-four hours since I noticed the pain, and so it appears that if that is what I am suffering from, then I will have to say goodbye to my left testicle. As you can probably tell, I am in a state of utter despair. If anyone has any advice at all, please speak up.

I found the following information at netdoctor.co.uk:"Testicular torsion Reviewed by Mr John Macfarlane, consultant urological surgeon What is testicular torsion?Testicular torsion usually only appears in young boys and is most common in their teenage years but is also sometimes seen in men up to the age of 30 or on rare occasions older men.The testicles are nourished by the blood vessels, which together with the nerves and the sperm channels pass through the spermatic cord from the abdominal cavity to the scrotum. The testicles hang loose in the scrotum and in rare cases they are twisted, so that the channel with the blood vessels is tightened. This blocks the bloodflow to the testicles. What does testicular torsion feel like?Boys with testicular torsion get sudden pain and swelling of the scrotum. The testicles become sore. The condition may be so painful that it causes nausea and vomiting. It will mimic infection (acute epididymo-orchitis) but it is very important to seek urgent treatment. How is testicular torsion treated?Immediate surgery - ideally within six hours of the pain starting - is the recommended treatment. The torsion that has tightened the blood vessels is removed and the failed blood circulation to the testicles is brought back to normal. In order to prevent torsion happening again, the testicles are sewn to the innerside of the scrotum (testicular fixation). It is usual to fix the opposite testicle at the same time.In cases where the circulation of blood has been blocked for a long time it may be necessary to remove the testicles. The operation is called orchidectomy. If only one testicle is removed the ability to reproduce will not be affected." Although my testicle is sore, as it explains is one of the symptoms, it has not swollen and I haven't experienced any nausea or vomiting. Could this mean that there is hope for my balls?

Listen to me carefully: You have to see a doctor. Stop trying to diagnose yourself! No one can diagnose your condition on a message board! I don't care what kind of releationship you have with your parents or what kind of relationship they have with each other. If you were having a heart attack, would you just quietly sit there? You are making way, way too big a deal over the embarrassment thing. Your parents are not children. They won't give you a hard time. If you just won't tell them, then call the doctor's office yourself. They will keep things confidential.I don't know what your medical issue is, or even if you have a serious condition, but if it is a torsion or an infection, you will get more and more screwed the longer you wait. The purpose of this site is not to kick around and mull over potentially serious medical conditions. In part, it is to encourage people who need to seek professional medical care to do so. To repeat, GO SEE A DOCTOR! If it's nothing serious, then you can at least stop freaking out about it.

I agree with SteveA."The one who asks; is a fool for 5 min. The one who never asks; is a fool forever." Or something like that...Go see a doctor immediately.

yea definatly man, can u imagine being embarassed by telling ur parents ur pain and going and seeing a doc OR the embarassment that you'd have to tell everyone who see's ur balls that u had some medical problem and didn't do nething about it. think about all the intimate situations u could screw by hearing these words "uhh where's ur other nut?" that would totatlly suck dude! and you'd so self conscious about it knowing there's only 1 down there and that YOU could have fixed the problem. don't screw urself man, go see a doctor.

I've had similiar pains in one or both testicles, but they've gone away. Never became an issue to bring up to anyone, but your case sounds far more frequent. If my reply is late, I hope you have seen a doctor already! Let us all know how it turns out, what it is etc. =) I wish you the best!
