Hello guys, I am SelfPity375(the starter of this thread) and this thread was made quite a few months ago. After I had posted that thread I stopped drinking for a good 2 months. Then after that I only drank on saturday nights. My current drinking pattern is this. I get drunk on Friday's and Saturday's, and sometimes Sundays, usually not though. During the week I'll occassionally have 2-3 beers. Is this a lot better than before, or am I just back to my old ways?
-
Yes, you're binge drinking. Not a good place to be, and even worse if you're 18. The alcohol is going to damage your body; the fact that it will screw up your life and relationships is icing on the cake.
It's very clear that you have an addiction to alcohol. Unless you can just quit (seems unlikely), you need to get some help. For a start, Google alcoholism help.
-
Why's it bad the drink at 18? Just because the _law_says it is and the government is always correct? It used to be 18 before those MADD nazis campaigned to change it.
-
your body can handle it better at 21 (your done if not almost done) developing and your body will be better equipped to deal with the poison (yes, thats what alcohol is.) then you would be at 18.
-
It's not that it's bad to drink at 18 (although it is illegal in the U.S.). It's bad to binge-drink at any time, but the earlier you start, the worse it is for you. That's not propaganda. The same goes for smoking cigarettes, but it does a different type of damage.
-
Frequent overconsumption of alcohol is bad at any age but if you consume only a 750-mL bottle of 80-proof spirits every weekend that's not too bad.
-
Yes it is. If you do that every weekend you'll gradually damage both your liver and your brain.
-
Every time you do that, it takes a little bit out of you. It depends how many little bits (of your brain) you don't mind losing. Eventually, the little bits accumulate into damage that's easy to see.
Where do you get your information?
[OK, I realize that you're not a complete idiot, and your just yanking chains, but I had to make believe you're serious in case someone who actually believes what you said reads this.]
-
I feel confident that I could stop if I wanted to. Like right now I have some Jim Beam and I was bored so I was thinking about drinking it. I decided not to.
-
So you were able to stop for one day. That's nice. Let's see if you can stop completely for a few months. If you wind up saying "I could stop if I wanted to, but I just don't want to", you have a problem.
-
That's the thing...I don't want to stop completely. I'm a bit worried about my health if I drink everyday. I go to college and every weekend it's just what me and my friends do. I would like to cut down to maybe once or twice a week. I drink because I enjoy it, and when I go out it's even more fun.
I'm just thinking if I just stop drinking all of the sudden, what will happen? Will my body allow it?
-
Maybe if you understood what those "MADD NAZI'S" have been through.. then you'd understand the law a little better.
-
But getting trashed once or twice a week will also hurt your body!> I'm just thinking if I just stop drinking all of the sudden, what will happen? Will my body allow it?Unless you're really an alcoholic, it will not be a problem. If you have withdrawal symptoms from not drinking, than you have a big problem, and you may need help quitting, if you can't do it yourself.

I'm not saying drunk driving is good, I'm not mocking mothers for having their children die in a crash because of a drunk driver. But the current DUI laws make it so that having 2 beers is over the limit. Most grown men can down a six-pack and remain sober enough to drive. And it works fine in Canada where the drinking age is as low as 18 still in some provinces. They haven't changed it to 21.
-
Most grown men can down a six-pack and remain sober enough to drive.I really do wonder where you get your information. Would you mind if the guy flying your plane just downed a six?
-
I don't really necessarily think its right to drive drunk, but I also agree that 6 beers for a full grown man will hardly affect his driving at all, in fact I pay more attention. Not to mention why can we go die in a war, but not drink a beer? Even CANADA let's people drink at 18.
-
When you die in a war, your fighting the enemy for honor. when you die drunk driving, your humiliated and possibly harming other people in the process. Drunks always walk out alive, its not the 6 year kid and his mom that get hurt or die.
-
If you think even a big man can drink a six pack in a couple of hours and not be impaired, you have no idea what you're talking about. I'm not talking about being staggering drunk. I'm talking about having your reflexes impaired just enough that in a tough situation, you may have an accident that you otherwise would have avoided.
Go ahead and kill yourself, but don't take other people with you.
I don't care how old you are when you drink. But if you do something as irresponsible as driving after downing a six pack, you need to have your license taken away, no matter what your age is. (By the way, there are a lot of cases of teenagers drinking, jumping in their car with their friends, and wrecking their car. Maybe teens in Canada are more responsible.)
