Does he see a dermatologist and get prescription steroid cream for it? Does he drink alcohol? If so how much? What about his diet? What does it consist mostly of?
-
yes he does have a doctor and the doctor gives him steroid medications wich dont make the psorriasis go away but it keeps it under control. no he doesnt drink, drinking is really bad for wen you have psoriasis. the diet should include alot of Vitamin D and any food thats good for ur skin like blueberries and salmon. do u have psoriasis?
-
I don't have psoriasis but my girlfriend does. She drinks alot of alcohol which is not good for her and she knows that but I keep reiterating it to her. I feel that steriods are ok for short term use but long term use will start to effect the liver and possibly other vital organs. Besides, steroids and some other medicines only correct the symptoms and don't get to the direct cause of the problem. I believe that what you eat effects body as a whole and when something internal is going on, it is shown through our skin. He may want to also add Vitamin E to his diet as well and try staying away from alcohol, and limiting as much simple carbohydrates as much as possible. Try eating more fresh fruits and vegetables and drinking plenty of water in his diet. I would also do a search on finding foods that are "alkaline" based since acidic foods in large amounts will also cause skin problems. You can also read more information about it at http://www.nutritioninstitute.com/Psoriasis.html Hope that helps

steriods are ok for short term use but long term use will start to effect the liver and possibly other vital organsTopical steroids? The will cause the skin to get thinner where the creme is applied. The Web page you refer to apparently claims that Candida albicans (yeast) is the cause of all evils (psoriasis, eczema, etc.). I don't buy that, although a course of nystatin is not likely to cause any harm.
-
Topical or Oral, either one will effect the liver used over prolonged periods of time. Candida is not the ONLY cause of skin conditions but it cannot be excluded either. Nothing wrong with changing the diet and seeing if it has an effect on the psoriasis though...it won't hurt

he doesnt drink and he eats alot of fresh fruits and vegetables. no matter what he tries the psoriasis wont go away. its all over his body, some places more then others. he doesnt have any on his face except once in a wile he gets a spot that goes away. thanx for the information

There is at the moment no known cure for Psoriasis and the treatments that are available only help to improve the condition not cure it. There is nothing on the market that will remove the condition completely. In the UK oral steroids etc are rarely given and if they are they are covered by weekly injections to look at liver function etc and are only given in the case of severe Psorasis. Topical steriods as SteveA said can thin the skin over time but I was happy to have thinner skin that the unsightly patches of Psoriasis. I also recieved what is called PUVA at my hospital. It is basically a specific type of ray (you can't get them from sunbeds!) which helps improve the look of psoriasis by slowing down skin reproduction. This worked for me by may not for others. It is basicaaly trying to find the thing that works best for the individual. I know that less stress and two weeks in the sun will improve my condition. Stress is a MAJOR part. The more you worry about it the more patches you get. Doverbet is the new treatment over here which is applied in a cream which does not stain and is pretty effective for some so may be worth a go.
I am lucky that I only have it on my foot at the moment but I remember when it was worse and I used to hide away but I think now if someone doesn't like me because of my skin then they aren't worth knowing in the first place!! I have become involved with the Psoriasis Association and release statements to the media to discuss how it is to deal with this condition from a personal level.
I hope this helps a bit hun -
thank you for the informatoin. ill look some of those medications up, hopefully they will work on my boyfriend. you are very lucky u only have it on ur foot. its a very embarrasing thing to have, and its very hard to hide especcially in the summer.
-
I hope you find something that helps. I have had it much worse and I know how embarressing it can be as I used to try and hide it so people wouldn't see but since my attitude has changed and I don't care what people think it has improved a lot. I remember wearing long sleeved tops and trousers in the summer and more people looked at me because I was wearing winter clothes!!I really hope it improves for him I know EXACTLY how he's feeling. PM me anytime hun

I had it for about 12 years, until two months ago which I'm now 99% clear. It's really embarressing I could'nt go swimming, wear t-shirts, shorts as it covered most of my body in patches. I tried lots of creams from the doctor and none of them worked or gave satisfactory results. Next I tried herbs Homeopaths etc I got some relief from these then I used some alovera (plant) products and my condition cleared for about 6 months. Four months ago I found a product on the net called Aura Sooth, instant relief from the constant iching and irratations scales never came back and three months later I'm 99% clear.
Buy this stuff, its a little expensive but it worked for me when I thought nothing would. A month after I first started using it I could wear a t-shirt in public it felt like I was walking down town with nothing on, it was so strange.
Try it you have nothing else to lose.Nat

I have searched high and low for the Aura Sooth, that you talk about but can not seem to find it anywhere. HELP!

You need the "e" at the end of soothe. I have no idea if whether or not this stuff is any good... http://www.aurasoothe.com Also see this forum on The National Psoriasis Organization's Web site.
