since it's no different than two 14 year olds having sex together in the eyes of the lawI get your point, but to be picky, the age of consent (i.e., the age that you can legally consent to have sex) is over 14 in a lot of places.

Kiddie porn anyone?
-
The laws of some jurisdictions make exceptions to the age of consent laws if all participants are close in age. Others don't, though it seems that many of those who don't make an exception in theory, do so in practice. I don't think any jurisdiction makes any age exception for possession of child pornography, leading to the situation where someone under 18 is technically breaking the law by possessing a picture of his/her nude body, but does not break the law by possessing the real thing. Enforcement, of course, would depend on the attitude of the local police. In the discussion above there has been some confusion over the meaning of the term "child pornography". The term "child" tends to suggest someone prepubescent, but the law includes anyone under 18.

In reply to:
does anyone here like kiddie porn? just wonderin
i hope you believe in hell, cause thats where ure going

It's funny how homosexuality was once considered to be as deviant as liking child porn. However, people who like child porn likely have issues that would be best resolved behind bars, likely in a rehabilative setting.
-
Unfortunately most prisons are not very rehabilitative.
-
And unfortunately many paedophiles are not really able to be rehabilitated. Overcoming any strong desire is tough and takes a lot of hard work and the manner in which one usually overcomes the desire is by avoiding the substance of that desire as much as possible - not very easy to avoid kids if you're going to live ANYTHING like a normal, social, life.In both the US and the UK, many paedophiles have been released from prisons and the authorities have been content that they are able to restrain themselves. Well over 90% of them reoffend within 10 years if they live that long after release.
-
> Well over 90% of them reoffend within 10 years if they live that long after release.
Is that really true? I've read things that say that the recidivism rate is of concern, bad, or really bad, depending on who is collecting the data.

we've had a sex offenders' registry here for a few years now. One of the down sides is the the NIMBY mentality makes it hard for people who have served their time to reintegrate into society.
-
A law went into effect in Miami Beach over the summer, where a sex offender can't live within a certain distance (2500 feet; state law reaqures 1000 feet) of a place that children congregate (schools, parks, etc.), which effectively means that no sex offender can live in the city. Since surrounding towns don't want all of Miami Beach's sex offenders moving to their town, they quickly passed similar laws. I'm not sure where the sex offenders are going.

I've read things that say that the recidivism rate is of concern, bad, or really bad, depending on who is collecting the data. Unfortunately the evidence is pretty conclusive. Virtually every convicted sex offender who could genuinely be considered a paedophile (as opposed to someone who simply goes to prison for having sex on a single occasion with someone under the age of consent) reoffends within 10 years unless they die in the meantime or get locked up for some other offence and sentencing for that takes them over this 10 year marker. This evidence is not in dispute. It's been put forward many times by many different authorities as a reason to ensure that people who consistently and regularly abuse children are NEVER released from prison. Unfortunately the modern human rights movement (a movement which I fervently support in almost all cases) simply does not allow this to happen. The justification given is that everybody MUST be given the opportunity to rehabilitate. In the UK in the past 25 years, almost 30 such offenders have either been released from prison or had cases against them dropped and have then gone on to commit some terrible crime which has incenced the public and made headlines for a few weeks. These cases have led to tougher laws and have been directly responsible for the setting up of the Sex Offenders Register but ultimately they've had little real affect so far and since the introduction of the register, 3 men with long histories of attacks against children (or who have had many allegations made against them over a period of time) have been convicted of similar crimes. In short, rehabilitation simply does not work for most paedophiles. Is this justification to keep all paedophiles locked up for ever, even the few who (apparently) show genuine signs of remorse and may be able to successfully overcome their desires and integrate back into society? Yes!

Actually, BareButt, though that statement on reoffence rates is frquently made, it is hardly ever accompanied by any actual statistical data or any reference to a published study. I have a sneaking suspicion it might be one of those things that "everyone knows" and therefore no-one actually checks.
-
That was exactly my impression. The data does not seem to be good.
-
I will look up the sources and post here (don't have time currently) but it all comes from UK and US judicial services. My aunt is a psychologist employed by the prison service specifically to look at offering counselling services to reduce recidivism rates and the mother of one of my US mates is deputy head of a government office which compiles these figures.Although this doesn't guarantee that my figures are 'correct' they are the 'official' figures given by the authorities responsible for compiling this information.
-
Please do, BareButt, I'd be interested to see some figures.
-
being someone that was attacked by a petophile i think that it is the most disgraceful thing that people get off on that those kids are being abused...it's sick
-
Would it help to tell us about it, footballdude?

kiddie porn is defined as being ne one under 18 in picture or film engaging in sexual acts. do not download ne illegal porn on your computer and if you have erase it. trust me i have friends that have/had worked in computer stores (bestbuy, compusa, etc.) and theyve all told me how theyve gotten computers in to fix with illegal porn on em and everytime they called the police in to investigate. these people had no idea what was going on when they were busted. its better to be safe than sorry.
