I’m just wondering…I'm a big guy…I’m 6’4 and weigh about 235lbs - maybe 240lbs. I know I’m little chunky in the middle around the belly, but I’m not by any means, severely or grossly overweight. The last few days’ I have noticed that my feet and ankles are really swollen. I pissed on the stick already so being pregnant is already out of the question. (Ha Ha)Seriously, what could cause someone’s feet and ankles to swell up? I used to be able to see the ligaments on the tops of my feet and now they are all puffy. What’s up? Does anyone have any serious ideas? I’m not in pain….Yet.

Do you drink a lot? Alcohol or beer could cause that.I am not saying you are overweight because your height and size go together, but when i reached my peak weight (195 lbs. @ 5'4" urghhh!!!) I had a lot of trouble with my feet. I had to go to a pediatrist and have lifts put in my shoes. Since I've lost 50 lbs. (yeahhh!!!) I have had no trouble with my feet or my back (which was another problem from being overweight). Mind you though, the feet problem hurt. I would probably have to guess that you may be eating foods with a lot of sodium. Try cutting back if that's what's going on.What is your average diet? How old are you? These factors contribute to different ailments as well. Is this a "sudden onset" problem?

Fluid retention (edema) can be caused by eating a lot of salt, as CandyGirl suggested. Try cutting back on it, and keep your feet elevated when you're resting. If it's something that just came out of nowhere and won't go away, you definitely should get checked out by a doctor. It could be suggestive of some other problem.
As you said, it doesn't sound like you're very overweight. Do you get much exercise?

Just have to say hon.................you're just YUMMY!!!!

Is this a characteristic of diabetes?

I'm not sure whether diabetes per se can cause edema of the extremities, but lots of other things certainly can.

It's still bothering me.... I've made an appointment with the MD. We’ll see what he says. Thanks for the input and advice.
