14 is a bit young for gastric bypass I would think. As for the watching carbs, cut out junk food etc etc I 100% agree with. You need to take some responsibilty and say NO to the foods that are causing your weight issues. Also eatting small portions more times a day (And I mean healthy foods by the way) will keep your motabilism high which will help burn fat. Also proper exercise is a must. Walk a few miles a day, get some weights (10 to 15 lbs or so should be fine) and do some arm curles and such. Also a few crunches will help as well.If you really want to lose the weight you need to make your self accountable. You are still young and you can handle this without major surgery.

NtroducingMyself, those are really good suggstions. You don't have to join a gym to exercise. As long as you have a pair of shoes, you can walk. When you get into good enough shape, you can run. You can do push ups, and evetually, crunches.I found that just walking a couple of miles every other day had a very beneficial effect. Of course that's not sufficent for staying in reasonbly good shape, but it was a lot better than nothing. It's not that the exercise burns off so many calories; it's that it affects your metabolism in a good way. And it just makes you feel better.a7x4life000, it's not easy to lose a lot of weight, but people do it. You just need to get started.

i know if seems really far away but it all starts with one step, and once u get the ball rolling itll feel like no time before ure fit and in good shape, you be suprised just the mental effect exersize has

Walking would be a great start! Although dont try to loose too much weight too fast, ie dont go on a crash diet or it'll come back rapidly.Workout how many calories you get through on a daily basis, from working it out look to reduce it by 500-1000 calories a day depending on how many calories you get through.Generally just try to be a bit more active, the simple things like take the stairs instead of the lift or walk to the shop instead of get the bus or whatever. As Helms said we can only give hints and tips, best speak to your Doctor he'll be able to help you more than we ever can!

Mike, you've gotten a bunch of good advice on this thread. Now you have to put it into action.

We're talking about a KID that has gained A LOT of weight in his very short life. Something's up. There is not always a medical reason why a kid becomes over weight. My younger brother Joey was thin all his life until he was about 9 years old and than he become over weight. It happened because he was to involved in his video games and he starting eatting too much. Now he's 15 and he's becoming more active outside and the weight is just melting off. Todays younger generation is becoming over weight because parents are not forcing regular exercise and proper eatting habits. Once they are established, most young people start to lose weight.

I> There is not always a medical reason why a kid becomes over weight. You are right, in the sense that there might not be a physicail reason that a doctor can find.I> It happened because...But we don't know what the situation is for the OP.H> However, in a case such as this (clinical obesity), a physician really needs to get involved. With that I totally agree. The physician might say, "I can't find a physical reason for your weight gain. You should have a little talk with the nutritionist....". Or he might say, "We've found a thyroid issue, and you need to get this prescription filled..."You have to see the doctor to find out. There's no downside, especially if you haven't had a checkup in a while.

I know what the feeling is like being overweight... Honestly, just stop eating carbs, or cut back sharply, and exercise a lot. Running is great, as is biking. Any cardiovascular stuff will work... Also, I've found that doctors sometimes make it more difficult for me.
