OK, you win the prize for cerebral movie choices. But no one mentioned Stanley Kubrik or Krzysztof Kieslowski. I thought Better Off Dead (with John Cusack) was great, as was Fast Times at Ridgemont High (at least I thought they were funny when I was a lot younger). Waking Life was incredible (I saw it in the same theater where I saw Ghost World, and then bought the DVD), if you're into that sort of thing (by Richard Linklater, who also did Slacker, Dazed and Confused, and Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, among other things.Folks should go to the video store and look for movies other than the ones that are on the new release shelves. In a good year, maybe one or two great movies will be made. But in the past few decades, a lot of good films were produced.

Better Off Dead (with John Cusack) How could I forget that, it is one of the best. And also, we can't forget Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai
-
I would have to agree with Mazkat, your list is a copy of mine.
-
YO rushmoore over here! one of bill murrays best in my opinion.
-
Spongebob rocks. A second relative of mine works on it.It's tough to think of a film I'd call my favorite, as all the ones I like are pretty evenly matched. I'm a massive Horror fan, and love Action/Adventure films too... And comedy!I'll play it safe and say The Lord of The Rings. It's beautifully shot, and does a lot of justice to the book (despite the necessary changes) which I'm a fan of - and yes, I read the book before I saw the film(s)!Favorite movies as a kid were - The Labyrinth - with David Bowie. And "The Dark Crystal" an awesome Jim Henson fantasy film - I first saw it when I was 5 and loved it.
-
OMG how could i have forgotten the lord of the rings trilogy slaps self

Is "favorite" a different thing from "best"?
-
Um, what are you asking me here? I like those movies, despite the fact that they may not be very good quality (this just may be an understatement), if that's what your saying.
-
OK, "favorite" is different from "best".
-
Obviously. I was trying to figure out what you were implying. I am assuming that that wasn't just some random question you pulled out of thin air.
Are penguins the same as ducks?
