I'm typing up this quick post for just some suggestions. Nice ones. That I can actually use. ThanksBut I have a problem with procrastination. Besides the fact that I do it all the time. I have a History 9 week exam tomorrow that's basically worth 1/4 of my grade... I think. I know it's important but I can't help but get caught up in something else. I don't really fail anything. I haven't failed a quiz since I started school, well actually in Chemistry I did once, but that was death waiting to happen. I know you're probably saying "then get your butt off the computer and study". I do get off the computer but even when I study in the smallest and secluded places I still get distracted by the tiniest thing. It could be a little ant that found a crumb on the basement floor and I'll actually watch it try to pick the stupid crumb until it decides it's too heavy and gets all his pals to help him. Sad to say this actually happened to me. I think I have a short attention span. No, I know I have a short attention span. I'm a learner by ear so when I hear the teacher teaching everything just comes to me then. Studying by reading is ok but it doesn't work as much. I study what I write down and use that for notes. But it's still kind of hard because I'll look at a sheet for hours and have a blank face the whole time. My sister tried to help by reading the notes to me in question format but she said my handwriting is too tiny and looks like chicken scratch so that's out. Living in the city and hearing 20 impatient cars honking everytime some slow person doesn't hit the gas the moment the light turns green can get quite annoying. Do you have any suggestions? I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Procrastination

could it be possible that you could go to a library where it was more quiet and study there? Think about the rewards that achieving good grades can bring.
-
well i know exactly how you feel i actually had to have somebody hover over my shoulder making me study or else nothing would get done. it's one of the most boring things i've ever had to do...i've never failed anything either...but i think that was do to nice teachers and extra credit they'ld let me do...and as for suggestions i'm sorry to say it but for people like us studing will never come easy so you'll just either have to "grow" into it or painstakingly hover over your books and not get anything done anyways...sry if it came off a bit negative.

Procrastination is a problem for me too. Have you considered organising a study group - a group of people who study together? Essentially you all teach each other, which is a good way to learn.
-
That sounds like a good idea. It might be a problem because when my best friend was helping me with Chemistry at her house I kept bringing up things way off subject. I think she lost her mind.
-
Do you think that you're procrastinating on studying chemistry because you're afraid of failing? If you never actually study, then, in a way, you're not responsible if you don't do well.
-
Yeah that practically hits the nail on the head. I haven't been doing too bad in Chemistry but there's just so many things. Am I really going to know all the chemical bonds and all 109 stupid elements? I don't plan on becoming a scientist at all.
-
I want you to turn off your computer, and unplug any other electronics you may attempted to take "a few minutes" break at. By doing that you may be able to drown out the distractions a little easier. Force yourself to sit there and study.I'm being a hypocrite right now because I've got homework to do and I'm sitting here on the computer posting on these forums. I should take some of my own advice right about now.

Nowadays, you need to understand science to be a good citizen. Unfortunately, we have a president who doesn't understand science (all he knows is that oil is a good thing), who was elected by a bunch of people who don't understand science. Maybe you'll be president someday. Go study!

lol RobBob, I do that all the time. It's really hard to focus if you're on the computer. SO I try to go sit at my desk and work on hw there, away from the comp.

you best find an interest in chemistry. I always liked it in school so I was good at it. Chemistry has helped me alot in life. For the record Im no scientist. I worked with chemicals in a job "mining" magnesium from the great salt lake. and those elements that I hadto memorize did me a lot of good out there. Now I work with explosives. You wouldnt think that playing with mines and bombs and shit involved chemistry but it does. I Worked in a Chem lab at one time for the army. It wasnt a job I ever planned to have but I ended up with it. All you have to do is find some way to make it interesting. damn, started rambling again....The point is that you may think you never need it but you do. now shit like english and finding the preposition ad diagraming blah blah blah Iv never used but the rest o the things I learned in school that I thought were useless, Iv used them, some on a daily basis.

Well the thing for me I can remember formulas and what not. But when the time comes to test things out I get freaked out. My guy friends are always like "you're going to blow up the school" or something like that to freak me out. It's cool and what not but there's sooo many things. My teacher gives us pop tests, not quizzes, no those don't even exist anymore. He's like the devil's advocate. Dragging us to his class like he's dragging us to our death chamber. My teacher's really cute which is kind of a distraction. And because of my non-interest for chemistry he's always having one on one talks with me... and making me nervous. But I eventually get it after a while. I think I just need a new studying technique or something.

Just find a study group. The rest of the people will be saying "Come on let's study" You'll probably be thinking "I really don't want to be here right now, but you'll at least get stuff done becuase the rest of the people will just say "Do your work" when youtry to start a conversation. Then you'll have nobody to talk to, then you'll be forced to do you homework becuase you have nothing else to do.Works for me every time .

i really dont care, i dont do my homework at home. i do it at school the day its due!

I don't think I'll be able to find ANYONE like that lol. Tried that with my friends and it went from the War of 1812 to how much George Bush sucks, to fighting over who had the best outfit at school. It's so sad. Godzilla < LOL! I have a friend at school who does that. He got caught once and was in extreme trouble because we had been working on a research paper over a certain state for like 3 months and the christmas break was coming up but our teacher was leaving earlier and came to pick up the paper early. Unfortunately he only had scraps of paper and a few notecards lol. The look on my teachers face was priceless.
