As if my father and i need to be more strained, I told him i love bill maher (no, not sexually for all you dirty thinkers) But His veiws and how he feels about most things. So, Instantly, "Do you still believe in god?" "......." (Long pause and silence on my part" "Answer me." "..........." "If you do not answer me I will turn my back" "I don't know." *click* He hangs up. Damn my inability to lie. had i thought of "I like some of his veiws, but not others" That wouldnt be lying! And it would have the subject changed. Dammit dammit dammit. Now he hates me. Not that he didnt before, but now he really hates me. My mother called after him saying "Darling i think its best that you dont come home sunday. Ill call you tomorrow" As i hear yelling in the background in hebrew (he likes to talk in hebrew when hes on a religious tangent) So I dunno, Was it right i told him instead of holding it off for longer? I mean, it wasnt a full blown no. it was a "i dunno" What am i gonna do?

Stupid flipping Flipping flip.

This is a joke right?

Java to be honest I feel bad that such a great girl as yourself is in such a situation. I believe that your father will come around. He loves you. If not go ahead an PM me b/c I know what is like to have your father stop talking to you and seeing you. I am on a 6 year streak sadly.
-
How long could you live a lie? It had to come out eventually. Imagine if you told him you were gay. It's ironic, because Israelies, aside from the fundamentalists, are quite secular. He will most likely come around, and accept you, but it probably won't happen overnight.
Tell him you'll believe in God if he can prove His existence. This is yet another example of how religion destoys things.

What Steve said. You can't live your life trying to be what someone else wants you to be. Be confident in your self, whatever your beliefs are. Take care hun.
-
Steve~ In YOUR opinion Religion destroys things. Religion brings people together as well. And Java I feel for you sweetie. It's rough when a family member, esp parents, don't want to talk to you. Though I agree that you cannot live a lie, and you should be honest with yourself and your family. Personally I think it's normal for people at some time in life to question their faith. But remember faith isn't found in a church, it's found within yourself.Give your father sometime. He'll come around, but it might take some work on your side as well. As he should not give up on you, you cannot give up on him either.
-
Having a parent not talking to you is hard, but then so is living a lie. Your father will no doubt come around, and maybe even grudingly respect that you were 'man enough' to say what you thought............give him chance to calm down, if he loves you, and i am sure he does, he will come around. hugs

I know who Bill Maher is, but I don't know anything about him. I've never watched any of his shows. What is it about him that made your dad flip out? Is he anti-Jewish or something
-
Been there! I come from a long line of Mormons, they stretch back tothe beginning of the mormon start ups and they were pissed when they found me to be an atheist. It all calmed down after a while.I was in jail for assault and my grandpa who was one of the few mormons Ivmet who wasnt a hypocrite, showed up to bail me out. I didnt know how he even knew I was there but he showed up to get me out, and he gave me a ride to my car.It was probally about a month after they found out I was atheist and started my fight with the church to have my name removed from their roles. Takes some time for people to calm down and remember that they love you before you had your own ideas but most times it does happen, eventually

If you've read what I've written about religion, then you have an idea what Bill Maher thinks, although he's not an atheist. He gets off on the hypocrisy of religion, religious belief, and the adherents of organized religion. Since organized religion is just another branch of politics, his source of material is endless. Hypocrisy is in no short supply.
