Just a quick question. My friend is having a "Seventies" Party this weekend and she's already got everything picked out except the music. I tried looking but I've been coming up with sour results. I wasn't alive during the 70's and some of you probably weren't either but in case you are familiar with it do you have any song suggestions I could pitch to her? Thanks.

The seventies
-
Ummmmm... Disco music???
-
The 70's??shiversI was aliveI remeber being dressed in horrid plaid bell bottems and bi centenial shit. Cheap trick did alot of music then, so did the kinks. the Doors ahd some music that was popular then but Jim died in july of 71 so the music was actually recorded before hand.start off by getting the sound track to dazed and confused.janice joplin,Wildfire - Michael Murphey , alot of CCR took place in the 70's,Kenny Loggins, hell go get the soundtrack to dazed an confused, and add to that the soundtrack of caddyshack, steal some dave loggins off of the net and maybe some dan fogleberg. that should get ya acouple of hours worth of music. It was the 70's when I found kiss as an alternative to the other shit on the radio.actually thinking about it caddyshack may of been the early 80's.

My record collection ("records" are audio recordings using a mechanical analogue process) is almost entirely 1970s. There is a wide range of fine material to choose from in many different styles, with many alternatives to the egregious disco style.
For a young girls' party Gary Glitter would be topical but perhaps better avoided.
-
well it's actually a high school party and she's a senior, so there will probably be people there I've never seen before. But thanks for the suggest
-
Hey theres nothing wrong with a man who wears the tarten! I have a pair of plaid trousers, but not bell bottoms. *pukes
-
lol, no the guys coming have already refused to wear any pants of the sort and will wear what they want. party spoilers. however that could include nothing lol
-
Clothes optional parties rock.

young hearts run free, gloria gaynor
don't stop til you get enough, michael jackson!go to a cd store and buy a good compilation. the cheap ones have all the same cheap licensed crap songs, don't buy them

A thought occured to me in the car rummaging thru my cd collection looking for a disc to listen to. Any soundtrack of a Tarentino movie is full of 70's music, hes a big fan, Pullp Fiction, Resivoir Dogs, Dusk Till Dawn, True Romance, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill 1 & 2.It sems to me that the Billy Jack movies were all made in the 70's as well.
-
Dont forget the marijuana
-
Oh god yes dont forget that, how the hell did I forget that? I was here for the 70's, of course in 79, I was only 8, it was a few years after that befor I ever had any of it myself.

Alright well being that 60's and 70's music is my favorite all time music even though Im only 23, let be of assistance.First off theres a difference between early 70's and middle to Late 70's. Second off, if your going to include the 70's why not include the 60's too, most 70's rock is inspired by the 60's or simply a lot of bands that began in the 60's also progressed on through the 70's. If your looking for disco music....pfttt goooood luck there lol But yeah heres a mega list...Ill put a 6 or a 7 at the end of the band name to indicate if its more 60's or more 70'sish. Ill also put an ! at the end of it if its an extremely kick ass band...even though they all probably deserve an exclamation point. If you need song titles let me know.ACDC 7Aerosmith 7Al Green 7Alice Cooper 7Animals 6Argent 7Bad Company 7Beach Boys 6Beatles 6Black Sabbath 7Blondie 7Blue Oyster Cult 7Bob Dylan 6Bob Seger 7Boston 7!Bruce Springstein 7Bachman Turner Over Drive 7!Buffalo Springfield 7Byrds 6Canned Heat 6Credenance Clearwater Revial 6!Cheap Trick 7Chicago 7Cream 6Crosby Stills & Nash 6Deep Purple 7Doobie Brothers 7!Doors 6Eagles 6Elton John 6Fleetwood Mac 7Foghat 7Foreigner 7Free 7Heart 7!James Brown 7Jan & Dean 6Janis Joplin 6Jefferson Airplane 6Jethro Tull 6Jimi Hendrix 6!!!Joe Walsh 7!Journey 7Kiss 7Led Zeppelin 6!Lynard Skynard 6!Motley Crue 7Neil Young 6!Norman Greenbaum 7Parliment Funkadelics 7Paul McCartney 7Phi Collins 7Pink Flyod 6!Police 7Queen 7Ram Jam 7Rolling Stones 6!Rush 7Simon & Garfunkel 6Sly and the Family Stone 6!Steve Miller Band 6Styx 7!Sumper Tramp 7The Guess Who 6The Who 6Three Dog Night 6Tom Petty 7War 6!I basically just listed non-one-hit wonder bands, although I did include a few. I also eliminated Mootown and softer music so that its all rock so its not too wimpy to play at at a party. But I can also include that if you want. Like I said though if you want the names of any good song titles to download from any of the bands Ive listed just let me know. I hope this helps and that your party turns out ot be a blast!
-
oh wow thanks that helped alot she just wants it to be plain old seventies because she suddenly has an interest in the fashin lol
-
Dude..... For heaven sake... Check the spelling of the bands names... phonetics doesn cut it! There are some that you listed that are funky!
Who is Sumper Tramp 7???
I bet they were "Super" to listen too...
...
-
I also eliminated Mootown and softer music so that its all rock so its not too wimpy to play at at a party.Yeah, you totally left out Captain & Tenille... Who can forget Muskrat Love, and Love Will Keep Us Together??? And Disco Duck (Rick Dees) is pretty... interesting. Same goes for Dead Skunk In the Middle of the Road (who I dunno it's by, so I dunno if you actually did forget them). But maybe they fall under one-hit-wonders?Yay for Eagles and Fleetwood Mac and Queen!
-
Purple Wishbone just said everything I would have said. Damm he knows his music. One thing I wanna know, is how in the hell did you forget Rick James? I mean Dave Chappelle brought him back from the dead.....lolDid he mention "fooled around and fell in love" ? I was watching Boogie Nights yesterday and I love that song.
-
