Okay, this year for Thanksgiving I decided to do things a little diffrent. Instead of a huge spiced turkey with all the fixings, millions of casseroles and one too many pies, I decided that this year I was going to fix tacos for my family. Well I had only planned on four people showing up for dinner (my parents, my sister, and me) because my older brothers and thier wives were spending the holiday someplace else. So everything was planned perfectly until a bomb shell was droped this morning... we'll be having guests this evening and now I have to come up with a few more side dishes to make the meal go a little farther. I have guacamole and bean dip that I just finished making and I need a couple more things to make... anyone have any ideas? I'd really appreciate it ^_^

I just made some corn bread. and some fish for the only vegetarian that will be there, my sister. I think I'm going to pause on the beef stew for a sec though. My mom might do that.
-
>some fish for the only vegetarian
That always makes me laugh... since when is a fish a vegitable?
-
lol well she just can't eat meat so fish is basically the only "meat" she can eat.
-
But are fish not considered meat? Last time I checked, meat was muscle of an animal, and I'm pretty sure that fish are considered animals. But fish do have healthier fats than those found in the land animals we eat, so maybe that's her reason (in which case she's not a strict vegetarian).
-
she can't eat meat because it messes her stomach up and she gets really sick. it basically ruins everything. meats like bacon, chicken, steak, turkey. stuff like that messes her up. but not fish so that's all she can eat. she would eat meat if it wasn't for that. last time she came over and we had pizza there was a small piece of pepperoni on her plate. we thought we would have to take her to the hospital or something. but I guess she's sensitive to that.
-
i'm one of those hypocritical vegetarians who eats fish from time to time too, i guess i would consider it 'meat' but thats not the right word for it
-
In reply to: 'meat' but thats not the right word for it of course it is. It's niether vegatable nor mineral.Fish is meat... so are bugs.Embrace the carnevour within.
-
it just sounds wrong.
-
They were once living animals, and now they're a food on your plate. What's wrong about calling it meat?
-
the edible part of many fruits and vegitables are commonly refered to as meat or flesh (eisier to say than "fleshy pericarp")
-
Well old man, I've never made them personally, but one of my friends made them for Christmas one year (hell, give me plenty of kitchen space and a recipe and I can make pretty much anything).Dinner turned out very well, I was a nervous wreck by the time everyone came home lol I had the fixings for either tacos or nachos, bean dip, gaucamole, spanish rice, a mexican corn casserole, two pies, and a few other things.... now I have a fridge full of leftovers lol I'm so sick of mexican food!
-
Sounds like it was awesome! But how can you ever get tired of mexican food? Thats just crazy talk I had a traditonal t-day dinner.
-
