I just wanted to know how you guys feel about uniforms. My principal, actually the whole staff board thingy whatever are considering uniforms in our schools. He gave us a little assembly today about how it will make our school more "united" and "formal". That's a nice little christmas present. :scream_cat: I am not really looking forward to it at all. Uniforms for girls mean skirts. And I haven't worn a skirt since I was about... 9. Mainly because I don't like skirts and they aren't comfortable. Maybe if they're long that would be an upgrade but about 40% of the school is for it and 60% is against it. I like the self expression thing and being able to wear what you want as long as it's appropriate I guess so yeah. What do you think?

Uniforms

I think they are a good idea, Students are getting crazy with how they go to school. Who you are and your idividuality is NOT described by what you wear. You won't have to wake up and wonder what you're going to wear, all kids will be based on how they act not what colour of cloths they are wearing. You do NOT have to wear a skirt, they let girls wear pants if they like (atleast at my school they did, but then again my boyfriends always got kicks out of the skirt so i wore it). Its really nice. Students are there to learn and i think a more academic setting will be applied if there are uniforms and such. There are a lot more positive points, i just cant think of them right now.

Well, I don't agree with uniforms. Maybe they're not totally describing your personality, but a small part of them does this. Uniforms really fail to unite students or make them look the same. Every kid in the school differs from its personality. Also, the children must learn about their clothing preferences. Maybe when I was young, I made about 10-15 minutes to find out what I'll wear, but I learned this way what I really like to wear.Anyway, this is not a big deal. At least there must be in every school some rules about clothing. All of the students must look clean and not vulgar.

You do realize you dont wear your outfit outside school? right when you get home and change its not like you hang around in your uniform all night.
-
If those are the reasons against uniforms, then uniforms don't sound so bad. They also eliminate some gang nonsense. Students wear uniforms anyway. They tend to live in fear of not conforming. Some dress goth, but that's also a kind of uniform.
I'm sure I would have hated the idea if they tried to make me wear a uniform when I went to school.

I Loooooved having a uniform when i was in highschool.. out of the 3 highschools i went to.. 2 were non and only one had uniforms and i loved it!
-
They call what my son wears to school a uniform. Its really pretty liberal and has not really been a problem. The school colors are red and white. they can wear anythign with those colors and earth tones. no colored laces in the shoes and no t shirts aside from gym class. all shirts must be tucked in andgirls can wear pants or skirts and any one can wear shorts so long as they are not shorter then thier knees. Its been pretty easy to get used to but if it was that liberal there, I doubt that you would be complaining about the situation.

I like my children having uniforms at school, it makes my job sooooo much easier and i think it looks smart. I went to a school that had a strict uniform code, blazer and hat i hate to admit LOL but that tended to wear off after the first year..............even with a uniform its easy to be an individual.
-
That sounds soooooooo English.
-
It really was steve.........beleive me LOL
-
For my first 8 years of school my uniform was nice grey trousers, grey shirt, wine coloured tie and jumper. Then when I went into secondary school my uniform was jeans and a school t-shirt. Guess which one I prefered? But now in my last year I don't have to wear any uniform, and I find it annoying at times. I have to pick out stuff every day and I just don't have that many clothes. I end up just wearing different combinations of the same stuff.
-
Personally I am for uniforms. I wish my school growing up used them. People were so focused on what people were wearing more than their studies. Even a few teachers focused on the clothing (Yes my school was very Yuppy).People can express themselves out of school. School is not a fashion show and deff shouldn't be a popularity contest (Though reguardless with Uniforms or not it always will be). Schools need to find ways to get the focus back on acedemics and away from "fashion" and "popularity" issues. But that's just me =-D

i had to wear a uniform at school until i was about 16 going on 17, now because im in the sixth form (the last to years at school) we dont need to wear uniform. because i like clothes and being allowed to be individual i quite like not having to wear a uniform but i still think its a good idea, especially when your younger and its such a big deal to wear cool clothes
in my school, the girls have to wear awful green tartan skirts and nasty green jumpers..ack im glad im past that -
Pink Ranger:In reply to:I Loooooved having a uniform when i was in highschool.. out of the 3 highschools i went to.. 2 were non and only one had uniforms and i loved it! You can wear a uniform for me anyday of the week pinkranger (preferably the Britney Spears school girl type) lol j/k lol or maybe not No I am
-
hm... well you've got some good points for school uniforms, but I still don't find school uniforms necessary. I've never weared a school uniform and I don't think that I've actually missed something...Anyway, in my opinion would be more convenient a dress code for school than uniforms. But I'm no wise at all
-
Well it's not like I have a choice now. The parents aka traitors voted in and so we have to wear uniforms starting next week which stinks. They wouldn't be so bad except for the way they look. And girls can't wear pants unfortunately. I can't run in the stupid skirts that they require us to wear. I have to run. Everyday. It's an instinct or rather a habit. But it's a grey skirt/pants, white shirts, burgundy, red, or grey sweater/tie. Maybe I can transport This might die out not sure.
-
They shouldn't force you to wear a skirt.Do you go to a private religious school?
-
no, used to but, we have to anyway. The new vice principal is an extreme religious person... that may be it.
-
Your vice principal is a knucklehead. If he's making the rules, it's based on some warped idea of tradition, women's roles, etc. I hope he's not trying to live out a perverted cheerleader fantasy. There's no valid reason that girls shouldn't be allowed to wear slacks. Someone ought to take those morons to court, if it's a public school.
-
Based on my own proffesional opinion, skirts are bad. They tend to lead to more immoral thoughts on the part of teenage boys then would slacks.I say this as a ex teen boy and present day perv.
