Or that religion where you go to hell if you like people of the same gender! Ha, so glad we don't have to deal with that every day.

Are you religious or an atheist...
-
In Christianity, it will at least get you a long sentence in that very hot place. Truthfully if you are talking about Christianity, no sin is greater than any other sin and all sins can be forgiven if asked. Atleast that's how I was raised. Not sure how to say this this, but I think, like anything else, religion has and will change with the times. What was once taboo a couple thousand years ago is not normal in todays society. There were "laws" that were changed from the old testiment to the new testiment because the times had changed.
-
If you're a fundamentalist, they won't change. Ever.
-
Okie dokie. So glad an atheist as the final word in that LoL. =-D
-
Show me a single example that contradicts that. Fundamentalists Jews still believe everything in the "Old Testament" literally and fully. Is a revision of the New Testament on the horizon? there an issue with the meaning of the word "fundamentalist"?I don't see what my personal beliefs have to do with this.
-
There are views from the old testiment that changed in the new testiment. Sorry I don't have those scriptures written down. Only example I can give is homosexuality. In Old it says abomination and in the New it simply says a sin, which is kind of a "upgrade" from abomination.
Reason I bring up your belief because I find it odd that as an atheist you certainly have straong religious ideas. Most Atheist I know (and many of my friends are athiest) care not about religion. It's the last thing they would ever debate simply because it's simply something they don't believe in. It's a mute subject for them.
But than there's you who every chance you get you debate religion. I am sure something you learned as well in phys. that when someone engages in such debates over and over it usually means deep down they have an internal struggle with the topic. Example: Someone who goes out of his way to bash homosexuals (like the guy who owns that middlebrook or whatever the name of that chruch is), might have deep down issues abourt himself being homosexual. Same goes for someone like yourself who calls himself atheist yet when he can he debates religion. Do you have a deep down struggle with religion, or maybe deep down believe in religion? I dunno, not for me to say.. but if I was a therapist, which I am not (yet anyways hehe) it's something I would explore.

There are views from the old testiment that changed in the new testiment.Hmmm.....I guess what I wrote above your post wasn't clear enough. Let me try to clarify. The people who were and are fundamentalist believers in the Old Testament have not and do not accept the New Testament. Likewise, people who are fundamentalist believers in the New Testament, and who accept it as the inerrant word of God, are not evolving much in their beliefs. Will there be a Newer Testament coming out any time soon? The last book of the New Testament would seem to preclude that, if you are a fundamentalist believer.> It's the last thing they would ever debate simply because it's simply something they don't believe in. I said a few posts above: "If I didn't live in the U.S., where religion is continually pushed in my face, I doubt that I'd waste another moment thinking about it." I guess you just don't buy it. I can assure you that I'm not in conflict. There are anthropoligists who are interested in ancient Indian tribes, but who themselves are not ancient Indians. Likewise techies who are interested in robotics.________On a completely different topic, where does it say in the New Testament that homosexuality is OK?

"If I didn't live in the U.S., where religion is continually pushed in my face, I doubt that I'd waste another moment thinking about it." I have to agree with that. If it wasnt shoved in my face and I wasnt given shit about it or had to deal with assholes having the balls to knock on my door of my home to try to get me to buy into it, Id probally never think of it again. As it is I try to avoid arguing about it because its so damned pointless. Its alot like beating my head into a brick wall. I get pissed and rustrated and once i a while I remember this and stay the hell out of hte whole argument. Other times I bite and get myself in a shitty mood trying to argue with someone who wont change thier mind no matter what, I for one, this time, am staying the fuck out of this conversation.

"If I didn't live in the U.S., where religion is continually pushed in my face, I doubt that I'd waste another moment thinking about it." I guess I just don't see it, other than politics at times. Otherwise it's never forced in my face. I have said it before and I'll say it again, though I am religious I think there needs to be a complete seperation of church and politcs/goverment/etc. But again otherwise I never see it being pushed in my face. Are there radical christians who want to push religion in people face.. YUP! But you certainly cannot let them ruin your day, ignore and keep walking. Maybe I'm too nice or let things get by me without much of a fuss, but I hardly ever see religion being pushed in people face.

It pervades our culture. It pervades our politics. It's everywhere. If you spend some time in Europe and then come back here, it will be obvious to you.
A lot of Europeans think the U.S. is a Christian version of Iran, with a fundamentalist Christian president who thinks that people who don't beleve as he does will burn in hell forever.

Gotta agree with ya Steve. Come to okie land and all the time you have to hear "...and I'm a christan." As if that some how elevates the opinion presented and closes the argument to further dicussion, on any subject.
"I like Wonder Bread...and I'm a christan."
Translation --> Sinse I am christan and I eat Wonder Bread (good wholesome white bread) it is the only bread that anyone should eat.
"Honey! Here come christan bread nazi's, hide the Roman Meal!!!! :open_mouth:

The Catholic church dosn't want gay priests, according to the document they just released. The church considers homosexuality an affective disorder.I guess that was their response to the priest child sexual abuse scandal. They sure don't get it.
