You wash the litter box every week? You are really...err...clean.

Dogs -Vs- Cats

How often would you wash it?? I used to wash my cats litter box every week when she had one(she goes outside now)
-
Well that smell drives me batshit.nightly, its a sifting one so we take the top part out and it strains the litter. toss the solids in a bag and take it outside. put the sifter back inside the second box and turn the litter over so the sifter is again on the bottem.Once a week I dump the whole damned box into the trash and take the litter box outside and add a little bleach and some water. it stands there about eh 10 minute or so while I sweep up the floor where the box was and then I hose it out. Its not a strong bleach olution, but enough to take the smell away.Other people dont wash the box once a week?I thought I wasnt alone on this? One thing about it, rarely can anyone tell by smell that I have a cat in my house period.Shes an indoor cat, never gets outside unless its on her leash and shes with someone. She wont go for a walk but in the summer she will lay on the patio with a leash on and chase the snakes that live under my patio and keep my flowers and pon free of most insects. She hasnt bothered the fish or frogs in the pond yet either.

Three words of advice: litter box liners. They may add to the plastic load in the landfill, but they save a lot of labor and flying dust.
-
I thought about that but with the design o this litter box, I wouldnt be able to use the sifter that cleans all the solids and clumps out. Id have to go chasing that stuff by hand with a scoop.
I dont get to much dust in that room rom it but I do get some spillage and thats what orces the sweeping.
I only use this pine litter, it has next to no dust and it knocks the smell down as well.
Got any tips on cutting claws? thats the one that gets me injured weekly is cutting her nails. wrap her ass up in a towel and stick a paw out and cut the nails. It works but she hates it.
I considered having her declawed since she is an indoor cat but after I found out what that means I decided it was pretty damned mean and makes them look like they are wearing socks that are too big for them all the time since the skin left tends to sort of flop around when they walk. -
wow ok I've never thought of cuttin cats claws.. normally mine shortens and sharpens her own by using a scratchin post.. or the fence lol

Wood chip litter? You must be a yuppie. Sand is siftable, and not dusty. Now they sell jugs of sand for big bucks. There is also a self-cleaning litter box, where the turds are automatically put into a containter, but the whole thing must be hard to clean.I have no good advice for claw clipping, if you're cat's not OK with it (they need to have it done when they're kittens, to get used to it). My cats were declawed. The last time, I had to think about it long and hard, but the vet finally talked me into it. I wouldn't do it again, now that I know more about it. In the U.K., it's considered abusive.

In the U.K., it's considered abusive. no more than its thought that neutering is abusive, where the hell do you lot get your info about the UK!

where the hell do you lot get your info about the UK!Cat keeping in Britain:In reply to:In Britain, very few cats are declawed except on medical grounds (e.g. chronic 'nail bed' infection), since outdoor cats need claws. In very exceptional circumstances, a cat may be declawed if the only alternative is destruction of the cat. Some indoor cats belonging to families on American airbases in the Uk are declawed, making them difficult to rehome if the need arises since relatively few British owners are geared to keeping an indoor-only cat. Most British cat owners vehemently opposed declawing; in Britain, this is considered to be done for the owner's convenience not the cat's welfare.www.moggies.co.uk:In reply to:The following is a list of countries in which declawing cats is either illegal or considered extremely inhumane:EnglandScotlandWalesNorthern IrelandGermany. . .Shall I continue?

Holy hell, I nearly shit myself laughing at that.Me a Yuppie???Ok hers some background, Im more the long haired full beard heavy tattooed biker type then a yuppie. Right now Im short a bike but Im shopping for another one.its ot like woodchip its like green pellets. My mom has a self cleaning one an its a real pain in the ass.it stays pretty clean but if it gets slightly to low on litter it goes to real hell and if you dont notice the box is getting full it emptys into, there is real hell to pay.The worst part of that is the cost initially.I asked her about hers when we got the cat, she paid over 100 bucks for it. I paid 15 for the covered filtered one we have. its more work but its not too bad.We got this cat when she was about 5 weeks old from a shelter where she was after being taken from someone who abused her.Her family was dead and her mother was put to sleep because o the abuse. she would have nothign to do with anyoe when she was first brought home. After a few weeks she started sneaking downstairs when noone was home and exploring and it was about a month or more before she would have anything to do with anyone. As she got older she was less physical us and stayed alone more and more. It took a log itme for her to be near us and soon ater she was reclusive again.Still she wont see anyone aside form me and then only if Im the only one in the room. She goes to bed with me at night but onnly if my G/F is asleep, so long as she is awake she wont come on the bed and lays on the chair that sits about ten feet from my bed watching.Shes been getting nails cut since she was brought home, she just HATES it.My G/F tellsme her old cat didnt care and would lay there and never move while you cut his nails. maybe this cat is just a rotten unsociable independant shit

So this time your royal smugness you seem to have the factsUnlike all those other times? > can only go by what people say since i don't google everything first before having my own opinion.Sometimes it's better to do a little research before reacting.

when you said people ya see steve i thought you meant ordinary people, like, me and the folk i know.........

Sorry for the misunderstanding. What I wrote was in the passive voice, and not very descriptive.

That is a nice picture of your cat Amz. And a tantilizing little bit of yourself in there too!

Well hun if I would ever own a cat it would be spayed and declawed.. sorry I want my furniture in one peace LoL.Actually my one dog Hayle in a few months will be going in to be spayed. She's very tiny, 6 lbs. She was to be 15 lbs, but she stayed very small (she was the runt). So I have decided to go ahead and get her spayed so I won't have to worry about any accidents. My other dog, Annie, I am going to breed once and than probably have her spayed as well.

Well hun if I would ever own a cat it would be spayed and declawed.. sorry I want my furniture in one peace LoL Hon i didn't say i didn't agree with it, Steve said people in the UK didn't agree with it...........and as for spaying and neutering, after working for a charity as i did, i wish almost everyone would get their pets neutered........
-
Spaying/neutering does not equal declawing. I suggest you read more about the declawing procedure.
I'm not sure what the point is of breeding dogs. There are already more fine dogs available for adoption than there are homes that can take them.
-
Iv had a few purebred dogs and Iv had alot of mutts.
If the dog is going to be used for show or there is specific characteristics of that breed that someone wants I can undrestand it but the best dogs Iv had the most afectionate ones and the the smartest have always been the mutts.
Or atlest its true in my own experiences -
I agree they are not equal to declawing. but the chances of me ever owning a cat is slim.. Not a cat person plus I'm allergic.Well Annie's breed is an Italian Greyhound (She's my Avatar though NOT a good picture of he really). Italian Greyhound are rare to find around here. Also she's a sweetheart with a one of a kind personality and I want one of her puppies lol. Plus most of the other puppies will probably go to my family.
