I'm driving myself crazy over here because I have had 3 known yeast infections over a 5 month period. Usually after having sex with condoms, I start itching and having vaginal dryness ( I used nonoxynol 9 with them). I went to the doctor the first time and she gave me diflucan. I took one pill and after a few days the symptoms felt better. About 2 months later, I got another yeast infection. This time it was soo severe, I could pull my lips apart and see yeast covering everything. This time, it's been a month and after having sex this Sunday, I got symptoms of a yeast infection within a day. My infections from thinking back have been mainly around the time I've had sex. I took the extra diflucan that I had and within a few days I started to get raw near my vaginal opening. I went ahead and examined my area and I noticed that I do itch on the left side of my vagina, but there are no sores or lesions. I just keep scratching and end up making myself raw. I have examined down there and near the opening I have a slit, but nothing else. I am just raw and dry. Usually when I get yeast infections, in the past, I have dryness soo bad that I continue to wipe and irriate further. Before July it has been years since I've had a yeast infection. When I went to the doctor, she said my cultures were yeast and I didn't appear to have anything that would say I have herpes. She said I needed to get tested because I have had these yeast infections, even though she said she didn't think that could be what it is. I'm all freaked out, I find myself learning that there can be no difference in the symptoms of a yeast infection and herpes. My mom confessed to me she's had herpes for 25 years and her OBs were very painful and with lesions. My question is, does this sound like herpes to you guys? I'm sitting here having to wait a week for results and I just need some sort of reassurance it could just be a yeast infection. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I apologize for my lengthy question and ramblings.

Herpes or just a yeast infection??

Sometimes what seems like a yeast infection can be bacterial vaginosis. Did your doctor culture for bacteria?
-
Yes, she said nothing showed on my culture but yeast.

So your doctor did all that, but not a culture (or tissue sample) for herpes? I don't understand that.I wonder if some of your alleged yeast infections were allergic reactions to latex. They would have gotten better with or without the Diflucan, in that case. Unless, of course, you had positive culutres for yeast each time. Or perhaps an allergic reaction made the environment more hospitable for yeast growth. If you think you're having a herpes outbreak, it's best to get tested within two days of the start of the outbreak.

I appreciate you getting back to me Each time that I have gone in, I have been positive for a yeast infection every time. This doctor, did take samples, but like I said, she said she nothing that would indicate herpes. What she said was that it's just something I should be tested for, even though she didn't think that was what was wrong. She said the Diflucan might not have cleared it up and I needed something more. She said that the nonoxynol 9 and the condoms could cause it. Like I said I had sex Sunday and my Monday, I could tell I had a yeast infection. The itching and the dryness were what was making me go to the doctor. Other than that, I had nothing else of concern (that I knew of). The hardest thing is to have to wait for the results to come back.

I'm not sure what to tell you, other than to get tested and wait for the results. Otherwise, we're just guessing.Good luck.
