The new Consumer Reports rates trans-fat-free spreads. Smart Balance is the only one (out of 14) that rated "very good" (for taste). The idea of these products is to reduce total fat intake. Benecol will supposedly lower blood cholestorol.

> I'm going Mediterranean.
It's worth trying it. But most of our foods aren't so tasty. I eat some of them because I know they're good for my health.
> Now I would definitely rather dip bread in spiced olive oil than put butter on it.
I've never tried spiced olive oil (I dislike spicy foods). If you want some extra tips about Mediterranean food, you can ask me

I've never tried spiced olive oilNot necessarily hot pepper. It can be...all kinds of stuff. Especially fresh garlic. But now I'd rather use plain olive oil than butter. Butter now seems so heavy. Olives are also good, healthy party snacks, if you can afford the calories. I love 'em.I stayed with my Greek friend's Greek mom (in the Boston area) for a few weeks, and I got to experience a lot of Mediterranean food. Lots of lemon.Seriously, it's mostly pretty healthy stuff.

crusty bread dipped in balsamic and olive oil is great with dinner.

in reply to:Yes, products that give it structure. For example, Becel margarine (is it Canadian only?) has only 1g of saturated fats (solid fats), 6g unsaturates (oils), and no trans fats per serving. It's non-hydrogenated yet it still has a solid structure. Their must be "something" (like emulsifiers, although those are for liquids like dressing aren't they - to keep the liquids in an emulsion?) to give the margarine structure. Nope, you can buy Becel in Holland too. Not seen it in the UK though.
