i dont know if this should go in the depression section or here ; one of my friends grandmother just died and she's really depressed about it. her and her grandma were really close, so she's in a mild depression right now. (she's been diagnosed) for the past 2 weeks she's drank at least one 20oz diet coke a day and an will eat an entire bag of Hershey's Kisses in 2 days. how bad is this for her? she's also pre-diabetic. she'll ask me if she's going to gain weight and i tell her yes (in a nice way so she doesn't feel too bad) but how much weight will she actually gain if she keeps this up? and how bad is this for her, internally?

Soda & candy

I eat more sugar than that lol and i maintain my weight so she will probably be okay depending on her metabolism, but if she IS diabetic than the kisses mite not b the best i dea in the world

Im 5 11 and about 160 lbs my GF is 5 9 and 124 lbs, we have desert nightly and she drinks 2 1 litre bottles of dew daily, I drink coffee and coke and a dew over a day and snack on cookies all the time.the sugar doesnt auto equate to getting fat, alot more goes into tit than that, how active you are, your body type, age, alot of shit goes into the effects of her habits. Besides its more than likely a temporary thing over dealing with the grief, and shell stop as she finds a way to deal with it.Dont be a dick and tell her shes going to get fat, help her deal with the problem that caused it and be there for her.telling her shes going to be an ox only make shit worse for her, it does not motivate her to stop the behavior that stemmed from a different problem.
-
i did NOT tell her she was going to get fat, but i know its not healthy for her, so when she asked me, "if i keep eating these will i gain weight" im not going to lie and say nooo of course not. i just said you'll prob gain some weight but i also told her it'll be ok and she's not going to be obese.

I'm curious as to what you mean by "pre-diabetic"? Care to explain?
-
there is 2 types of diabetics, juvy onset where teh pancreas makes NO insulin, and adult onset where it makes some and can be stimulated ot do more with pills and diet and exercise. You can not be prediabetic with juvy, one day your fine the next your diabetic, aside form what some patients get called a honeymooners where it starts producing insulin again.when peopel discuss prediabetic (never heard it refered to that way, always heard borderline diabetic)If your pre, you can possibly turn it around with diet and exercise and not end up on meds to stimulate production of insulin by your own body.
-
in her case, pre diabetic means she's insulin resistant meaning her body isn't producing enough insulin to out-weigh her blood sugar level. if she doesn't take the medicine prescribed and start to not eat a lot of sugar, then there's a high risk that she'll become diabetic. being insulin resistant also makes it harder for people to lose weight and easy to gain weight.
-
and that would be adult onset diabeties.Trust me, Im well versed in diabeties, I have a son thas been diabetic since he was 13 months old...april 7th 1992 is a date I know very very well because of that. I keep up on any new diabetic shit I can find, information, products, treatments, ANYTHING I can find.
-
Trust me, I know all about diabetes too.
I had just never heard of "pre diabetes", but I guess it's what people call type 2 diabetes.
Anyway, TC, she'll need to stop eating all those sugary things eventually. Sounds like this person isn't a juvenile diabetic, which is lucky for her, but you can tell her she's not giving her body a chance to catch up on the insulin. Diabetes is not fun, try to make her realize that. In worst case scenarios, it can cause things like blindness and having to amputate some limbs.
-
i just dont want to be harsh, cause she's only eating because of her grandma's death. but she's in counceling, so hopefully she'll get better and realize she needs to focus her emotions on something else. but, Grvtykllr, i have diabetes too, not juvenile though, and cinnamon is a good thing to keep in control someones blood sugar. idk if you already knew this! just a thought.
-
> and cinnamon is a good thing to keep in control someones blood sugar
What? If you really are diabetic, I seriously hope you're doing a lot more to control your blood sugar levels than just eating cinnamon... wow.
-
its not a type, of diabetes, its when your borderline, on the verge of having diabetes but it could be stopped if you got diet and shit under control.
-
of course you should do a lot more if you're diabetic than JUST take cinnamon. im not an indiot. i was just saying its one more thing that can help. and its not just blood sugar, its insulin levels too.
-
I really hope you're not a diabetic. If you are, you should go learn more about diabetes. It is all about blood sugar levels. And I don't see how eating cinnamon will help you any more than eating an apple will.Unless you're referring to type 2 but I don't see how that would help much in that scenario either.

insulin regulates glucose.its not about insulin levels, its about a balance of insulin to keep glucose between about 80 and 120. You also have to look into the hypoglycemic index, some food changes glucose faster than others. We have learned its not about sugar, its about carbs, and sugar si just absorbed faster than other carbs.Good control is determined by A1c Levels, a simple blood test you should have done every few months. There isnt room on this board to get into details, not all details anyways of diabetic shit, Iv been studying and learning since 1992, a hundred books a million websites, and many many doctors, dietitians and nurses tog et to where I am on my understanding of it to help my son better control his shit and have a happier healthier longer life.None of its simple, its all a pain in the ass. and for the record, cinnamon does jack fucking shit to help aid in control.

Like I said, I hope that guy isn't a diabetic like he said he was.
