Hi,i'm thinking about getting a tattoo... but have been backing away worrying that it might cause skin cancer.... is there any relation between tattoos and skin cancer or any type of cancer?

Tattoos and skin cancer?!?

i don't think there's any relation

There are basically two types of ink you could get, a really cheap king or a really expensive kind. One carries more risks than the other but not for skin cancer.

Hi Anon,I had a black dolphin tattoed on my lower back in summer 1997. I was 17 yrs old, it looked great and I thought I was wicked...but now it's gross. It's faded & looks cheap & tacky. Also it's still quite raised even after 7 yrs - a bit like scar tissue - I really regret it & wish someone would've told me the risks involved in having one cos I probably wouldn't have done it. Now there's a small lump appeared on it & I became concerned so i've been looking on the net to find out some info, which seems to link tattoes with skin cancer...My advice would be to not get one, why have the burden & worry of the possibilty of getting skin cancer (hope you haven't gone & got a tattoo already, you posted your message in April!!)All the best, J

if you keep sunscreen on your tat and get it touched up when needed (basicaly take care of it) then they dont look tacky over time. just be careful with where on your body you choose to get it. if a woman gets one on her stomach then gets prego - it'll streach and look bad. mine are on my lower back and they still look great.
