Okay...I have a problem, I guess. Lately, i've been having gooey, drippy discharge. Its a clearish-white color (kinda lot snot..) and it kind of smells a bit musty (not too strong). It happens on and off, though. I thought maybe it was my vagina cleaning itself out? (especially prominant after my period) It doesnt usually last too long, and the smell isnt HORRIBLE (unless I dont shower)I know its not yeast, because i've had plenty of yeast infections. I was kind of worried it was a bacterial infection, but i'm mortified of pap-smears.Is there any way to tell if i'm in dire need of medical help, or if its just my vagina cleaning itself out?

Discharge? NOT YEAST
-
Sounds like your typical, normal daily discharge...absolutely nothing to worry about. Why are you afraid or pap smears? sure they're uncomfortable but it's mighty usefull!
-
Aren't Pap smears just used to check for cervical cancer? Taking a swab for a bacterial culture is easy.
-
It's not the swab that's uncomfortable - i can't even feel it...it's that vice clampy thing that they use to pry the vagina open...
-
The speculum....yeah, they need to get the sample from a specific area, rather than heve it dragged through everything.

smears might be slightly embarrassing, but they arn't usually painful and extremely important. It could be something an nothing, if you are worried go to a doctor and get checked out, no fuss, no problems, no worries, life is too short to be worrying for the sake of embarrassment.

gah! Its not the embaressment that gets to me,b ut the pressure on the surrounding area that just makes me wanna vomit. It feels way to strange for me, and it just..eugh, creeps me out.
