Was talking to an old mate down south where I grew up and Jew's came up and he wasnt sure who I meant by that and said "You mean like from India and Paki type area?". I've always known about the world and which people are what, I dont get how people can not know even when they live in a whitey place like Salisbury. Do I expect too much of people?
-
People dont know shit
-
I wouldn't say you expect too much of people but maybe too much of reality. The vast majority of people are pretty ignorant of what happens beyong their back yard.
I'm fortunate that I've had the opportunity to learn about the world from a young age and am rather proud of being a very multi-cultural white dude. -
Hes right, many people dont know about whats goin o around the world. I mean its impossible to know everything obviously. Some people have expertice in certain areas that others dont. Lets say he has mentioned something to u and u didnt know what it was or where that culture was from but he did. Would u say its right for him to think about u the way u are about him? u shouldnt expect to much from people in my opinion, not to many people are good at geography

Has this mate of yours ever seen a newspaper, news magazine, or book, or watched a news program?Sometimes it's scary that everyone gets to vote.

a girl in my class didnt know what the holocaust was

In reply to:Sometimes it's scary that everyone gets to vote. I've thought this very thing on several ocassions. It is scary that people go to the polls based on what they saw on the news that day or what they read in Rolling Stone, making no effort to get to the crux of the matter. I don't mind at all if someone votes for the candidate I think is dangerous, or holds views that I simply don't agree with, as long as they have reasons for those decisions. It's all the Kool-Aid drinkers casting votes that worry me. So what would be a good solution for this problem? Some sort of test before you get to vote?

read in Rolling StoneOr hear on Fox News.> So what would be a good solution for this problem? Some sort of test before you get to vote? There is no good solution, other than to ensure that the population is educated, so they can read a newspaper and understand it. But you can't force people to keep up with the issues.Democracy is sometimes chaotic, and you get really bad results, but overall, I don't know of a better system. (As someone said, "It's the worst system, except for all the others.")

In reply to: Has this mate of yours ever seen a newspaper, news magazine, or book, or watched a news program? I doubt it actualy. In reply to: Sometimes it's scary that everyone gets to vote Churchill said "The best arguement against democracy is a 15 minute talk with the average voter". You can see where he's comming from. But then it was indeed him who said "its the worse system except for all the others", just as you quoted.Alas we cant have it all from any one system.
