Chronicles of Naria Have any of you seen this movie?I found a little something on it.. It’s being accused of a pedophilic feel in it.There have been a lot - a lot - of comments about how Mr. Tumnus in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe acted very innapropriately towards Lucy, with the hugging, touching and generally being friendly. Some people, believe this is complete and utter bull. It is a children's story, why would C.S. Lewis include something like that? It was a more simple, "carefree" time back when it was written, when men could be friendly with children and people wouldn't automatically deem them as pedophiles, just nice old men (in the books, Mr. Tumnus is supposed to be much older than in the movie). Others say that there was a pedophilic feel about Tumnus and Lucy's relationship. Take these direct quotes (which explain the poor grammar and such), taken directly from the Narnia board on IMDB. Quote:when I saw this movie, I thought that whenever Lucy and Mr. Tumnus were together, that the next second Mr. Tumnus was just gonna molest her.... ALL THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE. then they hold hands Quote:I'm NOT talking about the nature of their relationship as it is written in the book I am talking about the actor they chose and the way the director PORTRAYED that relationship on film. I don't think it came off as quite as innocent a friendship as was in the book. There was an underlying eerie feeling for me.Then, comes the voice that many would consider reason: Quote:Keep in mind that Narnia was written in the 50's when people were not brainwashed into paranoia, like now a days. The fact that Mr. Tummus isn’t even the same species as Lucy should have called off any doubts of his intentions! However, the claims of pedophilic overtones do not end there. Others are uncomfortable with the White Witch's actions towards Edmund. One person describes it here: Quote:Same deal with the White Witch and Edmund. When she was cuddling with him in her sleigh--it was too sensual. To be honest, that one I do slightly see what they mean with. I don't believe it was supposed to convey the sense of attraction between the White Witch and Edmund but they did it in a manner that inadvertantly portrayed it anyway. However, the claim that the movie advocates pedophilia or that it includes it still seems absurd. Discuss... - Can relationships between adults and children, especially when they are the opposite genders, be portrayed without being taken as pedophilic in these days? are people too paronoid?- Were there actually pedophilic undertones in the CoN? Is Hollywood trying to sneak in pedophilia. All the above I found on another forum..^ This is a children’s movie! I Haven’t seen it yet and after seeing all this I really am kind of scared to see it now. For me. It could be triggering. Are kids movie not innocent no more? Do people just have to put sex in everything! I dk I kinda wanted to see this movie but now I’m not sure… I just kinda wanted to see wut people that have seen it think.

Chronicles of Naria, pedophilic feel...
-
That is absolutely absurd. There is nothing pedophilic in this movie. The relationship between Lucy and Tumnus couldn't be more innocent. He is very taken aback by her, to be sure. She is a "daughter of Eve". He's only heard of this species but never seen one. Of course he wants to spend time with her. You might be right, though. The Chronicles of Narnia were written at a time when pedophilia was not the everpresent thing it is today. You could portray a relationship such as Lucy and Mr. Tumnus' and know that people would take it for what it is. I just think it's a shame that a filmmaker can't portray that beautiful relationship without having a bunch of perves try to pervert it or call it in to question.
My comments aren't directed at you so much. I know you were just asking. It's a great movie. You should definitely see it and you will see that it is completely innocent.
-
I haven't seen the movie, but when I read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe a long time ago, the idea never even crossed my mind. If someone said there was anything pedophilic going on in the book, I'd have thought they were nuts.
-
You have got to be picking my ass.....Have you read the books?Thats the first thing to do is go read the damned books, they were a favorite of mine when I was a kid in grade school. Its not a childrens movie, it deals with war and destruction.it is a young adults movie. Iis a chance for me to revisit my youth and share some of it with my children. Not only will I see this movie when I can arrange a sitter for the 2 year old, I will see it with my kids.pedo movie bullshit, good shit when does it end? when the telletubbies bone spongebob with harry potter conducting the rythem with is wand?Idiots are in great abundance, and most idiots are finding new theorys of stupidites to cast at the general public.Read the books, see the movie if you want, make your own mind up and stop listenig to random assholes who have a medium to make thier opinions known
-
> telletubbies bone spongebob with harry potter conducting the rythem with is wand
SpongeBob is all about inter-species sex. The Chronicles of Narnia seem pretty innocent to me, at least from the sexual viewpoint.
-
eh, just ranting. If it isnt CoN its harry potter or sponge bob or telletubbies (I hate that damned show it really sends me insane but I dont buy any gay connections or agendas).someone is always trying to make something into what its not intended to be. I should control myself better probally, but ranting sometimes feels so good when I read something as stupid as pedo insinuations from a source like CoN.

I've seen it and i don't get where these people are coming from.I mean for gods sake, this kinda thing is in THEIR minds, not the writer, producer, actor blah blah blah. (not getting at you Caleb )Its sad that in this day and age that we see badness in everything, and then we wonder why people turn a blind eye in the street to a crying child, and when they get taken we all call the state of the human society...........and yet its that society which prevents, people, and especially men, from going up to a child who is lost and crying and trying to help, for fear of getting accused of trying to abduct the child, or that the interest in the child is something more sinister!I never got anything sinister from the fawn and lucy.........and the queen is meant to be evil, but not in a child molester point of view!
-
You gotta be kidding me right? Absurd is deff the right word to use.I read the book, seen the original movie and just recently seen the new movie. The relationship between the fawn and Lucy is nothing but innocent. You have to remember it's been hundreds of years since the fawn has had a friend, and not to mention lucy was the "daughter of eve". As for Edmunds relationship to the white queen, she was evil.. she was trying to "brain wash" him with treats to gain his trust (You have to see the movie to fully understand). There was no "cuddling" on the sleigh, all she did was put her cloak around Edmund because it was very cold. It's sad when society takes an innocent book/movie and make it into something that's not there. This is a wonderful story about friendship, bravery, and love.Plus C.S. Lewis was a strong Christian and would have never written anything to be pedo format. If anything people have always said Lion, Witch and the Wardrob has a strong Christian backbone to it.. good vs evil etc etc.

i know u aren’t going at me.. I know grvtykllr wasn’t either (or so I hope he wasn't.) so it's cool.but urn right about it's how the viewer see it.. after hearing all this I was scared that if I saw it stuff would start going on in my own head.. I mean one time we were at a horse show and I saw this boy like toddler are playing with his trucks and his older sister watching him.. innocent right?! yeah.. but not to me all I kept thinking was for that mom not to let that sister watch him with out a adult around. who knows.. maybe a pervert pedo was the one that started all this rumor crap. But after reading all this it is given me more comfort in going and seeing it.
-
Nope I wasnt going at you, I was having a go at the idiot assholes that imposed these ideas onto the movie and book and then spread it around to get more people to go see it with that idea in thier heads.
-
I think it does say something about the folks who come up with those ideas. They're pretty much all holier-than-thou older men. Their excessive holiness is probably motivated by a deep-seated insecurity complex. (Yes, Jerry Falwell and James Dobson, I'm talking about you, you sniveling little bigoted bastards. Pat Robertson, you're just plain nuts.)
-
I read the book in 4th 5th and 6th grade... the entire series, for a stupid book report. What is the book doing for my life? Really! But no these people are just paranoid and have dirty little minds. It's a shame. I know this story inside out and there is absolutely nothing pedophilic.... about it.
There's my two cents. -
In reply to:I think it does say something about the folks who come up with those ideas. They're pretty much all holier-than-thou older men. I seriously doubt it was these guys, or anyone like them, who birthed the idea in question. And maybe you should stop with the childish, unwarranted name calling.
-
Do you know who any of those hypocrite, hateful bastards are, or what they've said?To borrow your word from a few minutes ago, they're pricks.Look up Charles Keating, the guy who was at the center of the 80's savings and loan collapse, for a good example of that type of mindset. Yes, he was an anti-pornography crusader too.I have to admit, Jimmy Swaggart's tearful apology was pretty damn funny. And then there was Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. They were a hoot. I'm not sure if they were anti-porno crusaders, though.
-
You're fishing and I ain't biting.Cast your line elsewhere this time.
-
Did you hear what Pat Robertson said about Ariel Sharon today? What a brain-dead asshole Robertson is. That embarassment, that festering boil on the ass of our country, needs to shut the fuck up.
-
Steve, are you gonna continue your ad hominem attacks, or are you gonna say what you're so damned upset about and open it up for debate? So the guy said something you don't like. Get over it. It's his opinion. Not everyone has to have your worldview or beliefs to be worthy of respect.
-
No what did he say?
-
Okay, I just found out what PR said. He said that Sharon's stroke could possibly be God's punishment for dividing Israe, which is God's land and against God's will.l. He then said something to the effect of "Woe unto any Prime Minister of Israel who takes a similar course."I agree this is a most asenine thing to say. It is based on Robertson's dispensational view of the endtimes. I don't agree with him. I wish he would shut up and not say anything because he seems to keep making stupid statements like this? Maybe it is God's judgment. Maybe it's just a frea occurrance. Who knows? I'm not God. Neither is Pat nor anyone else. But I still don't think statements like this (although grossly inappropriate) warrant the kind of vitriole we constantly get from Steve around him. If you disagree with him, fine. That makes you smart. Don't dumb yourself down by calling him names.
-
Basically that God struck down Sharon because Sharon's not a right-wing religious lunatic, which is what Robertson thinks God is.
In reply to:
Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested Thursday that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine punishment for "dividing God's land."
"God considers this land to be his," Robertson said on his TV program "The 700 Club." "You read the Bible and he says 'This is my land,' and for any prime minister of Israel who decides he is going to carve it up and give it away, God says, 'No, this is mine."'
In reply to:
"He was dividing God's land and I would say woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU, the United Nations, or the United States of America," Robertson said on his television program, "The 700 Club," Broadcast from his Christian Broadcasting Network in Virginia Beach. "God says 'this land belongs to me. You better leave it alone.'"
He also recently advocated, on his show, that the U.S. should assassinate the democratically-elected (and very popular) president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez. That won him first place in the Mega Genius 'Stupidest Statements Awards' of 2005 top ten list.
Robertson also has a history of talking about hurricanes hitting areas and airplanes hitting buildings in places that displease God because they're not right-wing and Christian enough. I guess God doesn't like the poor people of New Orleans, but he has no problem with the pagans of South Beach.
According to Roberson, God does not like Moslems, and he like Jews conditionally (with the idea that they will convert to Christianity before the Apocalypse). Someone needs to pray for that guy's soul.
