may i also point out that you mentioned masturbating to gay porn. The bible says that masturbation is a sin, so you are sinning anyway.Anyone who joins the army, whether to be a cook, a doctor or a pilot, have to go through basic training that involves using weapons. As a army doctor there's always a chance you are helping people on the front line where there is a chance of attack, in which case you will probably have to kill some people.

Am i gay?

I assume you meant to reply to the original poster.
>The bible says that masturbation is a sin
I don't think so. See here.
> there's always a chance you are helping people on the front line...
Yes. The Army is not the right place for a pacifist. If someone's only going in for the veteran's benefits, they should reconsider.

Hoo boy.. this should be fun...Everyone is entitled to believe in what they want to believe. If you believe homosexuality is a sin, then don't be homosexual. If you have the urges, yet you believe it is wrong, then live a lie and try to be what you consider to be the model christian. If you believe it is wrong, don't do things like watch gay porn. Why 'corrupt' yourself if you find it wrong? Okay, it comes down to this; if you find it wrong, don't do it, but for the record, and not saying that you would ever do this, but just don't take it out on other people who are homosexual because you think it's wrong. Everyone is entitled to believe in what they want to believe. Nobody should stomp on your beliefs as long as it doesn't affect their life, your beliefs should not negatively affect the lives of anyone else. If everyone would just let everyone believe in what we wanted to believe in, and never let it negatively affect another, I believe we wouldn't have wars.Oh, speaking of wars, if you take up a job in the army, you are serving as a single piece in one large machine that helps each other out. In your own way, you are contributing to the deaths of others if you think about it. I'm not saying it's wrong.. I'm staying neutral here.. just kinda tossing that out there..

i seem to remember learning that in the story of onan in the bible, his sin was that he wasted semen (when he spilled it to the ground). But then i suppose you could argue that any sex that is not for procreation is a sin.as an atheist, i'm happy not worrying about things like that.
-
God told Onan to impregnate his dead brother's wife. Onan had a last-minute change of heart, defied God, and pulled out before it was too late. That did not please the God of the Old Testament. The sin was in the defiance of God's will, arbitrary though it may seem. If he'd have done his duty, it appears that God would not have cared if Onan had masturbated the next day. That may not be important to an atheist, but it is important to countless hundreds of millions of religious Jews, Christians, and Moslems.

In reply to: If he'd have done his duty, it appears that God would not have cared if Onan had masturbated the next day. Well said Steve.

Are you not killing people by default anyway just by being in the army, no matter what job you do your still part of the army. Think about it if you fix a tank and that previously non working tank kills 100's people then you have, by default, killed those people. Same if your a doctor, if you heal a soldier or authorize a soldier as fit to fight then you have sent that soldier out to kill more people.

Well, I agree with these statements at least in part. In particular the discussion of if you believe it to be a sin, then it is for you and it should be something you work at not doing. This should be based on your own study and understanding of scripture, not just what one person tells you.
Please note, I believe that this takes more than reading any one particular translation of the bible. It takes much study and understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek writtings of the scriptures that we have. Since everyone is not a Hebrew and/or Greek scholar use of as many study guides and information from other sources you deam as reliable, and much prayer are needed to come to your own personal understanding. You must take the scripture in whole and not out of context. We have a tendancy to keep the parts we like and ignore those we do not.
This journey will take a life time. Many times you will fail (ie, sin) and sometimes you will learn more things that cause you to change your views. This all is between you and God. Well, mostly. You are also commanded not to make your brother stumble by something you do. So, sometimes something may not actually be sinful for you, but because it would cause a problem for someone else, you should avoid it.
Now, as part of that there is also the responsibility, in the Christian faith, to share the "Good News" with others. However, that does not mean disrespecting or trampling on them because the do not agree with you. They must make up their own mind and follow their own heart. Your job is to give them the message. After that it is God's work.
So, if you believe that being sex with a like sex partner is sinful, then you should not do that. Also, you need to guard your thoughts as well as your actions, because they are just as wrong. This is true for anything else (ie, cursing, dancing, playing cards, drinking, driving cars, wearing reveling clothing, you get the idea).
So, grab your bible, grab a quiet place, start studing, and start praying. God will answer. Worry about you. Not the other guy. Once your good with you, you will know how to reach out to others.
