This topic was inspired by SteveA. As i posted in another topic, what is it with kids today and not being able to keep their legs closed. Its all over the boards, kids who can even drive yet or arent even in high school are having sex with everything that crosses their paths. They dont even use protection, even though they shouldnt be doing it at all. Im just expressing my frustration and dissapointment with todays youth. no respect for themselves

Kids today, and why they suck
-
This topic was inspired by SteveAJust to clarify, I don't buy into the idea that kids today suck. That's something old folks have been saying about young folks since time immemorial.I don't know how much more middle school- and high school-age kids fool around sexually than they did in the "old days" (after all, teens have been getting pregnant for a long time), but it is discussed openly in a way that it wasn't before. Way back when, if two 13-year-olds fooled around, they didn't talk about it openly, because there was no Internet to discuss it on. No news groups. No forums. They weren't likely to take out newspaper ads. So it was out of sight, and thus, out of mind.

It was bad when i was in high school, but not grade school. I dont remember neone having sex when i was in 8th grade. High school they were all slutting around. It makes me sick
-
I would say it's more their parents that suck for not doing a better job.
There is a reason they live with us and not on their own. They are kids for crying out loud. -
Im sorry but when ur in high school u have enough intelligence to make somewhat of a decent decision. Parents cant watch over their kids 24/7. They can manage to make rational decisions on their own from time to time.
-
Looking back and thinking about it, I'm pretty sure some kids were having sex in 7th grade. By 9th grade, there's no question about it. I don't think that was just a Miami thing. And that was a while ago.
-
I dont remember any of that while i was in those grades
-
Did everyone in your grade confess their sexual activities to you?
-
it was a small school. you knew everything that went on
-
I agree with Steve.. it definetly did happen.. I remember in grade 6 this "couple" climbed ontop of the school and had sex!
-
I went to a very large school. I don't know of any cases of people having sex in school, but there were a lot of people coupled up and smooching in the hallways. I remember my nasty 7th grade civics teacher giving a girl a hard time for making out in the hallway. My closest friend in 11th and 12th grade was a pretty precocious guy. He had a nice car, went out with women a lot older than he was, and had quite a bit of sex...he was a bit of a gigolo.

I agree with aTa7. I beleive it is happening more these days. And I believe the main reason is that it's thrown in front of their face all day. We allow movies that push the boundaries to be targeted at kids. We allow MTV to push the boundaries. Music is so overtly and disgunstingly sexual. The internet. On and on and on. And then we sit back and scratch our heads and wonder why kids are having more sex earlier.
-
Yes that is true. But if the kids were given the skills to deal with life when they were younger they wouldn't have the same kinds of problems. Or the very least to the same degree. By the time a kids is 16ish they should be equipped with life skills to deal with most of what comes at them. A parent should only be a basic observer and advisor at that point if they took care of business when the kids were younger. No one thinks you can watch over a teenager 24/7. If you raised a child well you won't have to.

some teenagers need to be watched over

Did anyone stop to think how things are in Western Europe, where, for a long time, kids have been given sex education in school? For a long time they've had nudity on TV, in magazine advertisements, on beaches, all over the place. I'm not sure that European kids have sex at a younger age than American kids do, on the average. Perhaps they do. But they have many fewer unintended teen pregnancies. Basically, the level of hypocrisy is just lower.Unfortunately, some of the same elements who rail against abortion also do everything they can to keep schools from teaching sex ed at an age where it would be more useful. The result is more abortions. Ironic, isn't it?ata7, you can tell as many 14-year-olds as you like not to have sex, and that they're idiot sleaze bag whores. You might as well tell them to go build a nuclear reactor. They need to understand that sex is serious stuff, and it's OK to say no, and that no one should pressure youthem into doing it. But if they are still going to do it, they need to take the following precautions....That would be a lot more constructive than drawing conclusions about the current state of our society, based on your own narrow, jaundiced view.
-
Are you gonna back up your assertion that more abortions is a result of lack of sex education with research? I dare ya.
-
I can back up my assertion that the rate of abortions is lower in Western Europe than it is here, and that they get sex education in lower grades then they do here (if in fact they get it at all here). Are you asserting that ignorance of birth control methods doesn't contribute to unwanted pregnancy? On this site, you still regularly get questions of the caliber of "Is it possible to get pregnant the first time I have sex?". Or should we crank up the "Just say no!" campaign again? It didn't seem to do much good last time, according to the statistics.Have you ever searched for statistics or references yourself? Go look for the data on the Promise Keepers. I dare ya.

Most parents are slackers. My standard house rules are: I mean what I say. I'm only telling you once. I am going to be checking on you. If you say you're going to Zach's house, I may pop over and make sure you are at Zach's house. There will be random drug tests while you are growing up. (from 7th grade on) I expect you to do your homework and your chores. And you will need to go to college. If you tow the line you will have more freedom. If you don’t you will have less freedom. If he knows the rules and knows they are enforced he’s more likely to follow them. This son just got back from a cruise to the Caribbean. Summer before last he went to Hawaii. He doesn’t have the new Xbox but he will when he ears it. He has the old one, a PS2, a Gamecube and lots of games for all. He has a 27” tv , PS2 plays DVDs, a VCR and cable. And if he doesn’t earn the right to use them by following the rules he looses them. My son just turned 11. He has straight As and his teacher want to advance him a grade. I get compliments on his behavior where he goes. Even when I’m not there. If he wants to have sex? He needs to watch his little sister some more, and we’ll go buy the condoms. And I’ll be more than happy to take his gf to Planned Parenthood if she’d like. The more birth control the better.

In reply to:I can back up my assertion that the rate of abortions is lower in Western Europe than it is here, and that they get sex education in lower grades then they do here (if in fact they get it at all here) But you can't show that there is a correlation between the two, can you. In reply to: Have you ever searched for statistics or references yourself? I've just completed a huge research project. I've taken several masters level research courses. I would put my ability to do this up against yours or anyone else's on this board any day. In reply to:Go look for the data on the Promise Keepers. I dare ya. And stop acting like such a f*cking ass. This constantly trying to paint me as the worst sort of fundy-neanderthal-homophobic-anti-intellectial-wife-beating-ignoramus is getting old. The bottom line is that you have a huge problem with anyone who disagrees with you on anything. I suggest you grow up and get over it.

::cough choke spazm die:: What about me? I've kept my legs closed! Except when I excercise.I agree that sadly my generation and those to come are really just bad. Alot of kids are having sex these days and not even caring. There are kids that make out in the closet all the time, in the bathrooms, in the hallway corners. It's disgusting. But some do use protection though. My friend and I found a half filled condomonium outside on the field before Christmas vacation. Yes it was nasty, and yes I lost my appetite. It was my second time seeing one and that... really doesn't look safe but oh well. Parents can't really do much since they're not always there. Most of my friends... few of my friends are still virgins only because their parents would murder them. Sounds familiar. Today's youth could do better.
