Can marijuana harm you in a lot of ways?
-
I can drive to after smoking... I did it one time.. I don't make it a habbit.. Just had to go pick something up.. So I went.. I drove 100% normal.. Even saw a few cops.. As long as you stay calm your fine..

Marijuana smoke is as harming as tobacco smoke, however a tobacco smoker will smoke more cigaretts than a weed smoker will smoke weed. Believe me, it is much worse to smoke cigaretts. Weed does kill brain cells, but not as much as drinking (not at all). People dont get paranoid after smoking for many years, I don't know who the fuck made that shit up. Ive been smoking for about 3 years now and all you get is relaxed, chilled out, overall more peacefull. Buy a vaporizor for your weed and you arnt inhaling anything bad at all.Smoke smoke smoke more weeeeed!
-
Right on... Cept.. One thing.. Marijuana smoke opens you up.. Cigs close it. and plus cigs have a ton of unneeded chemicals.. Verdict: Weed is 10x better than cigs
-
i think you have that slightly backwards
-
Yeah, One joint is equal to around 7 cigarettes... Or at least that's what I've heard... Plus we really don't know what the long term effects of marijuana are on the body, because we have stoners, and the government researching it. The stoners saying it's not bad, and that it doesn't kill braincells (While still being completely burnt out) and the government WANTING to find something wrong with it, so they read into alot of stuff and make it sound worse than it really is... SO there's really no telling.

Actually I have done some research and even I was wrong according to how bad marijuana smoke is for somone, it is actually much healthier.Read THIS.http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis_health2.shtmlHeres just some highlightsStudies even show that due to marijuana's ability to clear the lungs of smog, pollutants, and cigarette smoke, it may actually reduce your risk of emphysema, bronchitis, and lung cancer. Smokers of cannabis have been shown to outlive non- smokers in some areas by up to two years. Medium to heavy tobacco smokers will live seven to ten years longer if they alsosmoke marijuana. Cannabis is also radically different from tobacco in that itdoes not contain nicotine and is not addictive. The psychoactiveingredient in marijuana, THC, has been accused of causing brain and genetic damage, but these studies have all been disproven. In fact, the DEA's own Administrative Law Judge Francis Young hasdeclared that "marijuana in its natural form is far safer than many foods we commonly consume."Many people think smoking marijuana is just as harmful as smoking tobacco, but this is not true. Those who hold that marijuana is equivalent to tobacco are misinformed. Due to the efforts of various federal agencies to discourage use of marijuana in the 1970's the government, in a fit of "reefer madness," conducted several biased studies designed to return results that would equate marijuana smoking with tobacco smoking,or worse. For example the Berkeley carcinogenic tar studies of the late 1970's concluded that "marijuana is one-and-a-half times as carcinogenic as tobacco." This finding was based solely on thetar content of cannabis leaves compared to that of tobacco, and did not take radioactivity into consideration. (Cannabis tars donot contain radioactive materials.) In addition, it was not considered that: 1) Most marijuana smokers smoke the bud, not the leaf, of the plant. The bud contains only 33% as much tar as tobacco. 2) Marijuana smokers do not smoke anywhere near as much as tobacco smokers, due to the psychoactive effects of cannabis. 3) Not one case of lung cancer has ever been successfully linked to marijuana use. 4) Cannabis, unlike tobacco, does not cause any narrowing ofthe small air passageways in the lungs. In fact, marijuana has been shown to be an expectorant and actually dilates the air channels it comes in contact with. Thisis why many asthma sufferers look to marijuana to provide relief. Doctors have postulated that marijuana may, in this respect, be more effective than all of the prescription drugs on the market.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I should have used that site to fight my side.. I have used it to learn stuff for a while now.. Except, I never looked at the cannabis part
-
No problem, there are many other essays also supporting what this one has said. I really just want to spread the word, and stop all of these government sponsored false accusations about something that I love. Somone cant say they hate weed if they have never tried it, just remember that. When people do say that and they havnt tried it, they are merely making an unjustified opinion about something they know nothing about. I want the whole world to know and share the awesomeness that is canabis.
-
weed is like a pack of cigierets weed is the worst of the two and is so much more bad for you than tobacco dont do either
-
That may or may not be true, but do you have data to back that up, or is it just your gut feeling?
-
In reply to: I can drive to after smoking... I did it one time.. I don't make it a habbit.. Just had to go pick something up.. So I went.. I drove 100% normal.. Even saw a few cops.. As long as you stay calm your fine.. Apparently, this has some scientific basis. They are doing studies to see if marijuana has an adverse effect on your driving abilities. In one instance, it made the driver actually drive BETTER. For the simple reason, he was concentrating harder...go figure...Not saying it makes you concentrate harder, but one would probably be inclined to concentrate harder if one knew they had a higher chance of doing something wrong.
-
Yeah. I read something about it a few weeks ago. It said dose had alot to do with it or something like that. Cigarettes are worse then weed? I'm afraid not. The studies that showed cannabis as 'bad' was a bit off. They were using like large quanitys of cannabis everyday. Way more then the regular user.
-
Tobacco seems to be more addictive than marijuana. However, smoking anything has got to be bad for you - whatever you smoke, you'll be producing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which are known to cause cancer.
-
Long term cannabis use hasn't showed any cancer to date. Its when you add the tobacco is when you run into a few problems (Kind of expected...) I still dont trust joints. I dont like the idea of smoking paper. But, thats just me.

Have there been any good (longitudinal) studies on the subject?

Well now they're saying that there is a link between mental illness and pot smoking. I believe it because I've seen the effects it has on people with schizophrenia. My uncle had a very mild case of schizophrenia as young boy and when he started dabbling into drugs as a teen it made it worse as he got older. Fox News - Marijuana May Cause Mental Illness Now I don't think It causes mental illness myself, I think it brings it out more if you already had a chemical imbalance. Thats just my opinion. Take it or leave it....

The article says:
In reply to:
But while the association of drug abuse and addiction with mental illness is well known, a causal connection between marijuana smoking and psychiatric disorders is not clear, other experts say.
Which is to say, mentally ill people may just be drawn to things like pot smoking, and the pot smoking may or may not have an effect on the illness.
Also, schizophrenia often gets worse during adolescence and young adulthood, pot smoking or not.
It sounds like they need to study this issue a lot more.

Couldn't get the first article (broken Web site). The second article contains this:
In reply to:
Murray A. Mittleman, MD, PhD, director of cardiovascular epidemiology at Beth Israel-Deaconess Hospital in Boston, told WebMD that marijuana smokers experience a 4.8-fold increase in the relative risk of heart attack during the first hour after smoking. The risk returns to normal after an hour, he said.
That doesn't sound too good.
