At St Augustines school in the UK, the school I attend for 6th form college, it had been a pretty sad day. We arrived to find the press outside the school, journalists and such.. then an announcement that one of our teachers had been shot. I'm sure a lot of you have heard about it.. she moved to the US this year and was meant to be having her housewarming party on saturday. She was a lovely woman, and there was never anything bad said about her, nor did she ever say anything bad. I'm posting this as a sign of respect.. and also to let people know how fucking stupid guns are - they shot her 9 month old baby lillian as well. Rachel Entwhistle was only 27 years old. A sad day...
-
Wow that's very sad Amz! it's very disturbing to know there are people out there that would do such an act.My thoughts and prayers are out to the family.
-
thats a horrible story hon, i have no idea how a family would cope with that, and shooting a baby! what the hell is wrong with people these days
-
I know.. It's totally.. ugh! there are no words for it. I can't believe it
-
This world is fucked up. Its crap like this that really makes me depressed about the future of this place
-
Not only guns are stupid and no one shouldn't be able to own one, but also the one who triggers a gun is fucking stupid, too. I really can't explain my anger and sorrow now, but I believe everyone here feels the same, too.Such is life and only the good and honest people suffer in this world...
-
That is really sad Amz.
-
I cant agree with you. of course i thought the story was sad, and that people are fuckin sick! but i own guns. so dont start a gun debate
-
well if people didn't own guns, people wouldn't get shot! or am i wrong?

[The "News" link to the Boston Globe article has an extra '://', which makes the link not work.]It wasn't a random killing. According to the article, it looks like they suspect the husband shot his wife and baby, and then disappeared. She met him in England when she was there teaching. They were paying $2700 a month to rent their house in a fairly nice suburb of Boston, and he's disappeared with his BMW.In any case, that's very, very sad.
-
yeah i got the feeling they thought the hubby had done it.............I can understand how you can hate a person, as in adult, but how could anyone kill a child, never mind their own child!
-
Indeed.[BTW, you might want to edit the "News" URL in your post.]

If I decide to kill someone I can kill them in so many ways.I dont need a gun.Give me a chain saw, a knife a bat a car I length of wire. There are hundreds of ways to kill someone and a gun has nothing to do with it. A gun is a tool the same as all the other methods, its about who uses the tool and how they use it that determines if its evil or not.I took my classes, I made guns at one time for BRowning Arms, Iv made a damned good living working with guns and explosives for the Federal Governement and have a proven track record of saftey and responsibility with guns, why shouldnt I be allowed to own them? IV taken alot of deer and elk and eaten every damned one of them. Soooo much better then beef. I am dangerous wiht abow and arrow, ask a kid that grew up next door to me who I shot with a arrow. He was standing beside and behind me when I was shooting into a hay bail, I dont know yet how I hit Mark with that arrow. There needs tobe harsher punishments for the people that break laws with guns and use them for illegal purposes instead of everyone juping down the throats of responsible legitimate gun owners.Ill keep my guns thanks. Iv used them on people before. Once ina hotel when they broke into my room and once in my home in the same circumstances. IV shot alot of warnig rounds into trees when backpacking in the wilderness areas of Utah and Iv had run ins with bear and moose and once on a trip toa ghost town near me when I took my kids to see it and we got a mountain lion on our ass walking thru the cedar trees. Iv used it to kill rattle snakes in heavy brush where it got impossible to simply avoid them like I can in the desert.Tools, nothig more then tools, its the user that determines if the tool is valid or not.

[BTW, you might want to edit the "News" URL in your post.] I take it that bit was for Amz.

By that logic, everyone should have surface-to-air missiles and a stash of machine guns. They're just "tools", after all.Not that it appears to apply to the case in question, but the number of murders in the U.S. is way out of proportion to the population, compared to most other parts of the world that aren't war zones. Giving guns to Americans is like giving guns to slightly-off children. No one is going to drive by and strangle me with a piano wire. But one can shoot ten people in a matter of seconds. The Constitutional justification for gun ownership is completely bogus in practice, with respect to keeping the government in its place. American, and gun owners more than most, just roll over whenever the government decides to do something, whether it's lynching black people, rounding up Japanese, rounding up Arabs...whatever. Gun owners are so full of shit. So very, very full of shit. Probably the biggest block of hypocrites in the American electorate (with exceptions, of course). The NRA is a group of gun-obsessed fascists. Not that guhs should be illegal, of course.

I take it that bit was for Amz. Ooops! Yes, it was. I left out the "Amz: ".
-
thats true, but i did say SHOT and that requires a gun............and hitting people, stabbing people, strangling etc etc is all pretty up close hands on kinda stuff, standing away from someone at a distance and pulling a trigger is a lot less 'personal'.........and if they had to get in someones face and feel the knife going in for example, it might prove a little harder to follow through with killing someone.I TOTALLY AGREE its the person not necessarily the tool thats to blame, but saying that we have a WAY lower record of gun crime over here, and hey they arn't legal so i think its a valid point.
-
Canada has plenty of guns, but their murder rate is much lower than that of the U.S. I don't think the presence of guns causes the violence (but it does facilitate it). America has a violent culture. The frontier mentality crossed with respect-obsession leads to it.
-
Guns don't kill people......People kill people. Unfortunately, usually with their guns
-
its just like grvtykllr said. You can kill people with anything. Hey automobile accidents kill more people than guns do every year, so lets get rid of cars. I mean you'd have to rid of everything in the world. I can kill you with an icicle, so how do we make that illegal?
