I recently turned 18, so my friends took me out to a hookah bar /restaurant for dinner and I had a blast. I've always hated cigarettes because they smell horrible, but after smoking several different types of flavored tobacco from a hookah I must say that I enjoy it. My friends and I liked it so much we decided to buy a cheap 2 hose hookah for $60, and we smoke it on the weekends now.Anyway this may sound stupid, but if I smoke once a week from the hookah for an hour or so, will I eventually become addicted? Thats the last thing I need, so I'm just wondering because if so, then I will definately cut back smoking to like once or twince a month. thanks

How much to become addicted?
-
It's hard to say. I smoked in High School for a few months and wasn't hooked. But I also walked away from a huge Coke addiction without any slip ups.My sugestion is that if you don't want an addiction to go and look for one.
-
I dont want to be mean, but could I get some advice from someone who hasn't had any major drug addictions. I just need some good advice. I appreciate your input though.
-
There's a risk that you might get hooked (it uses nicotine-containing tobacco, doesn't it?), and it can't be the best thing for your lungs.
-
well i know that, I'm just wondering if I use it once a week or every other week, will I eventually become addicted?
-
There's no yes-or-no answer. It depends on your biochemical and psychological make-up. The risk is somewhere between 0 and 100%. How can anyone just tell you?
-
For some people the answer is yes and for some people the answer is no. It depends on the person. If you care stop. If you don't care keep going.
-
and if your on the fence with it... do it half the week then stop. It's really hard to answer that. It's should be your judgement call....
-
People are right to tell you there is no real yes or no answer.Having said that, there is a reason people know about Pavlov.Conditioning is real! So, although you may not become addicted on a physiological level...you could "train" yourself to need it.

i used to smoke sheesha/hookha whatever once every week, and that was fine. i wouldnt be too worried about it. like the others said theres no yes or no answer. but really if i had to put it down i would say noyes they contain nicotine but because its a kind of water pipe thing it filters out a lot of the nasties, or so i have been toldi still occasionally have sheesha but at the moment i dont have much money thinking of buying one..
-
Water pipes don't really filter out the nasties. A bit is caught in the water but most is not. (If it removed all the nicotine, which is what is addictive, people wouldn't smoke at all.) The main function of the water seems to be to cool the temperature of the smoke.
-
sorry i didnt really mean that - water pipes dont remove nicotine, after you smoke them you kinda get 'sheeshad out' as they say, as in the nicotine gives you a bit of a high.im not sure- i meant the 'nasties' as in any other nasty chemicals which may be present.
-
I don't expect they would be removed either - most are in the tiny droplets that contain assorted chemicals (including nicotine) and make the smoke visible. If a droplet impinges on the water all its contents end up in the water; otherwise none; so it's an all or nothing removal, not a selective one.

There is a A 50/50 Chance you will get addicted. There are people that can smoke and smoke and smoke and then stop smoking for good one day and never look back, Then there are others that want to quit so bad its just impossible for them. As in, I personally have a very addictive personality, I never smoke and I only drink when greatly either deppressed or celebrating, and then its only in modertaion. It's cause I know if i make something like that a habit, Ill NEVER be able to get off of it. However, I'm The biggest coffee addict you've ever seen. I cant go a day with outh at the very least 2 cups, and the people at starbucks back home are some of my best friends now. I couldnt get off coffee if i wanted to (thank god i love it)
-
It all depends on you. I can smoke a pack a day of cigarettes for a month straight then stop and not smoke for months. If you feel it starts to become an addiction, just stop for awhile.
-
oh my! bad news, your hooked...j/k. dont worry about if your "addicted"... because, generally speaking, anything that can cause your body is harm is bad. just know the possible effects it can cause you to have. then if your okay with the possibilities then go smoke away! just dont say you can quit when you want to...and all that crap. i smoked since i was twelve i'm 26 now and just quit a year ago this month and that was with the help of zyban (or welbutrin-xl) even if it is just at the hookah bar...smoking is still smoking... but hey smoke away if ya want to i loved smoking the hookah, (among other things...) that apple flavoured tobacco was my favorite!

Just stop, and STOP NOW! By the time you decide to stop, you will be hooked, and you will regret it the rest of your life.
