Your career...

Thanks guys.Nope, I just went to college Mazkat. I left after a two year media course when I was 18, and did compensate going to university or continuing with a higher course at college.I looked into it though, and discovered that qualifications arn't in any way a requirement to work in film. It's what you can do, and what credits you have to your name - you learn on the job. It's the only way to do it. They can teach directing, film techniques or working within the film industry at college - however it's one thing working with other students and scribbling on paper, and another thing working and learning from professionals on a real film - Of course I chose the latter, and it was a good decision. My friends who chose to do the higher level college course in college are still doing what I did last year - I think it's either the fact they don't know what to do with their lives (whereas I've known for 7 years) or they just want to doss about in college rather than work. And to be honest - this isn't really work to me. I found a job I like, and so far I've not worked a bloody day!But anyway, I got off my ass just before leaving college, got in touch with a film company just asking for some work experience - I was enthusiastic, went to a meeting and they liked my CV and liked what I had to say about the film, and what I could offer towards it. I let them know I was interested in the Art Department (because it's a creative means of delivering a visual message to an audience, much like directing) and they gave me a job as the Art Directors assistant.... and it all went from there.

Congrats and Kuddos! A job well done and well deserved!

Thanks Roc.I've still got a long way to go, and I'm still to be in CONSTANT work. But I'm doing ok. Just need to keep up the momentum!

Hey just cos you go to work, doesn't mean that you're a better mom than meHuh? She said she wishes she could stay home, so she could do more for her kids. What exactly the hell are you talking about?

So all those 4-year film majors at USC and NYU are wasting their time? One goes to college for more than learning the mechanical skills to do some task. A university is not a vocational school. You go to college to learn life skills. Not everyone winds up doing for the rest of their lives what they think they're going to do. A film major friend of mine from college became a vice president at a major publishing house in New York. He's now a published fiction writer.

She said she wishes she could stay home, so she could do more for her kids. What exactly the hell are you talking about? I'm thinking that may have been a typo. Could she possibly have meant "doesn't mean that you're not a better mom than me"?

I'll finish this year my undergraduates studies as a software developer. I also work as a System Administrator and Web developer. I'm planning maybe after 1-2 years to do also some postgraduates studies in Computer Security or Educational Software, but I'm not so sure about it.

High School student... Deciding what sort of science-y thing I want to do- I really want to do something with psychiatry, or animals (animal behaviourist would be ideal). Also, I am wondering if I should take algebra 2 AND geometry next year... Math isn't exactly my strong point, so I'm kind of worried that I'll fail both. :frowning:
