while looking for ways to cure my tight foreskin I came across a medical page that put forward the hypothesis that the main cause of boys having a tight foreskin was them using the "wrong" masturbation technique...---The study of observed cases reveals that adolescent or young adultsubjects suffering from phimosis have habits of masturbation differentfrom others.Conventionally the pursuit of solitary pleasure is done with thedominant hand closed over the penis making alternate back and forthmovement over the shaft, the hand going down towards the pubis, uncovering the glans which the index finger or thumb may now and thenstroke lightly, reproducing the sensation of intercourse. This exercise results in moving the penile skin in the same way aswill occur in vaginal intercourse, and therefore it is a preparationfor adult sexual relations. We shall see later that this training isnot only mechanical, but also participates in the psychologicaldevelopment of the individual.I have established a classification of the other methods ofmasturbation and have often seen them among patients with phimosis.1) Some boys never masturbate! We may doubt their assertions, but thetightness of their phimosis suggests their statements are correct.Ejaculation takes place during sleep (nocturnal emissions), and morerarely spontaneously while awake prompted by stimulating events, amongthose subjects who attach guilt to contact with the penis.2) Others stroke the glans through the foreskin in the usual way, butattempt to pull the skin towards the tip of the penis instead ofpulling it back toward the pubis. We find among these boys thepersistence of a long tubular foreskin such as is seen in infants.3) In some cases the boy rolls the penis between two palms or betweenone hand and another surface such as the abdomen, the thigh, a table, the edge of a chair (in particular the toilet). It is usual in thesecases for the raphe on the underside of the penis not to be in themidline but more or less displaced to one side or even spiral; thepreputial orifice is often displaced: figure 1.4) Mechanical stimulation without use of the hands is perhaps foundmost frequently (perhaps causing less guilt). In general, the boy, flat on his face on his bed, labours as if for intercourse with thehelp of his pelvic musculature, and rubs his penis against themattress, the bolster or a pillow, often through a cover in which --sign of the times -- he has placed a disposable paper tissue to avoidstains which would betray his activities to his mother.5) Interfemoral stimulation is found, facilitated by a penis curveddownward (figure 2), unless it is this activity which determines thisanatomical anomaly. This technique has the advantage that it can becarried out in company, much as some females have orgasms by squeezingtheir thighs, while climbing a rope, or while riding a bicycle.6) Instrumental masturbation: this can be achieved by vibro-masseur orby showering, but it has never been demonstrated in this populationstudied and therefore must be rare or of occasional practice.7) For the record: auto-fellation when mobility allows it.---I read through the list and thought "hey, one of them IS me". I thought it would be interesting to hear from others with the same problem to see how many of us fall into one of these catagories.[The article advocated "correct" masturbation (i.e. pulling back the foreskin while erect) as the best way to cure 99% of phimosis.]

"Phimosis" caused by wrong masturbation technique?

I'll bet it's all true. I've read posts about guys complaining about never knowing that they were supposed to pull the skin back etc... and they are in their late teens or twenties even. And I always wonder to myself, didn't you guys have any curiosity going through puberty? I remember I was, and was pulling back checking out "what was in there" in addition to it getting pulled back in masturbation.

This is interesting, though you should have given the reference where it came from. The full text of the English translation can be found at http://www.cirp.org/library/treatment/phimosis/beauge/, and the original French at http://ame.enfant.org.free.fr/phi_fr.html.
Unfortunately the paper gives no quantitative data at all. It seems that it's just the author's impressions. This greatly diminishes the paper's value as science; still, it's an interesting read.

"And I always wonder to myself, didn't you guys have any curiosity going through puberty? I remember I was, and was pulling back checking out "what was in there" in addition to it getting pulled back in masturbation."In response to that: I didn't know that it was meant to be pulled back when I was young, but I did experiment. However when I did this it hurt. I just thought it hurting was nature's way of telling you this wasn't meant to happen. Also my orginal masturbation technique was running my fingers across the top of the foreskin, then I switched to the one where you pull the foreskin up instead of down.I've got my foreskin sorted now, but I still prefer to use this technique.

yeah i realise that including the link to the original article would have been useful/proper, but I had copied that text from the original page a good while back without keeping a bookmark of the page. I guess I was just being lazy not wanting to look it up again. As regards curiosity, did you ever try sticking things up your ass as a kid? No? Neither did I. There's all kinds of things you could potentially be curious about, but if you aren't SURE that you are meant to pull your skin off, why would you? I don't have any curiousity to cut myself either...I think that the difference here is that some people just start tighter than others and so assume that it's not meant to come back. However if when you masturbate part of the glans is accessible, then you have cause to investigate. Personally I never saw my glans at all until recently. The funny thing is that numerous girlfriends over the years had seen my penis and not a single one passed comment, thus enforcing my belief that i was normal. I can now only assume that none of them had actually seen an erect penis before!eh, I think it's pretty funny the way things have turned out. I do wish that I had found out earlier, but I'm cool with it. Foreskin stretching is definitely working

hmmm, firstly, i dont believe masturbating differently actually causes phimosis, i believe it just helps in hiding the fact that ur supposed to do things in a different wayI masterbate in one of the ways suggested and, by pulling the foreskin forward instead of back, therefore, this never gave the skin a chance to stretch and the head a chance to be exposed, therefore i think the skin just became used to being where it was and instead of becoming stretchy like the rest of the foreskin which is gliding over the head, it became harder and tighter.So.... if u still enjoyed masterbating in this fashion i believe you still can do this, as long as u keep the stretching up to date, so that you dont give it a chance to go back to its unstretched state.Does this make sence?
