I reached in the nearly empty bag of bread and pulled out to slices to find they were dreadfully mouldy and ugly and felt so weird. Anyway I instantly dropped them on the kitchen side and kinda shouted/screamed/swore very loudly. Then spent next 10 minutes washing my hands. The two slices of bread are still there on the kicthen side. I dont know how to remove them, I can barely go near them. This is really embaressing but mouldy stuff scares the hell out of me. Always has done since I was little. I dont know what to do. All I wanted was a honey sandwich. Are these kind of fears normal? What should I do?

Fear of Mouldy bread

I feel ill and twicthy and my hand still feels dirty

It's like any other phobia, and you could probably get desensitisation therapy if you want. Mould is best not eaten, so a certain distaste is appropriate; like phobias of snakes or spiders, your distaste has become amplified to something disabling. Is there no-one around you can get to get rid of them for you?

any fear can be overcome, now I am not saying you said otherwise, your post just seemed the most obvious place to reply.
I was once scared of snakes, I have since had some in my house that were 6 feet long, she had to move out when my fiancé moved in but it wasn't my snake anyways, I was sitting for a good friend who couldn't have her because of her lease, she has since taken the snake back. It was a Columbian red tail boa and I got to the point I would handle her and feed her and let her lay across my shoulders and down my arm and take her out of the house and in the car and for walks in the summer (no leash :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: she just laid there on my shoulder and down my arm and I used her to pick up girls) too many bad experiences and multiple bites still leave me a phobia over spiders, too many trips to the hospital and one really nasty episode with a recluse's relative and more then one episode with black widow bites and is a fear I rally don't want to overcome.
a certain fear of some things is not really a bad thing, mold is one of them since it doesn't do strapping any real harm or screw up his daily life. -
I have a fear of doorknobs. i cant touch them. I instantly flash to the hundreds of millions of germs and things on them, it almost makes me feel sick. i have to use my elbow or foot to open them.

I am afraid of being in the dark. My fears are of larger predators attacking me. I mean we have a lot of bobcats and moutain lions around here. I am much better if I can see the animal the I can think clearly. Once I am in the dark rational thought goes out the window.

Last night about 2 blocks from my sons school they pulled a Cougar out of a tree that ws first spotting chasing someones dog onto the back porch.I back pack alone sometimes into the woods miles from the car or any road and spend a few nights, its good to remember you are not the only predator out there and Iv had a few run ins with moose in the night and a couple of deer but I have yet to be eaten by a bear but I have seen them in the area.
