In reply to: Excuse me? I'm thinking of how its affected the world. he's stopping scientific progression that could save millions of lives. I understand what you're saying as well as your frustration. But the concern is that it might be potentially scientific progress at what cost ? If you are depending on aborted fetuses for stem cells, well, a lot of people think that's a problem. My understanding is that he hasn't halted all stem cell based research, only harvesting new strains from aborted fetuses.I'm kind of watching this show on tv in which they are removing stem cells from a woman's eyes to somehow implant in her blind brother's eyes to enable him to see. Thing is, I never knew about this area of research. The media only tells us outside the scientific community about the one specific strain of stem cells. Do you know about this? How many ways are there to get stem cells?See, the problem here is that too many good people such as yourself spend all their time ranting about who did what and how unfair and unscientific and all that, instead of taking the time to maybe pass on information that we weren't even aware of. I'd love to hear more about stem cell research that doesn't potentially lead to questions of moral ambiguity.

The Moral Questions.

So it is Javas fault and people like her for being frustrated and not given the proper media attention? That sounds very backwards if you ask me. See the issue of stem cells comes down to beliefs. If we are to keep religion and government seperate then we should by no means slow stem cell research. Remember you cannot say we should because we are too diverse a nation to say we should do this and do that, which lends itself to saying less government regulation. Which lends to a bunch of other problems. This is a perfect situation to show an economists theory of there are no solutions in life just trade offs. How do you choose what is best for a nation of so many views. WE cannot simply ignore groups of people. This I believe is the inherit problem with society, the people. When we are alone with people with similar beliefs, problems are not numerous, but throw a bunch of people with an inifinite range of beliefs and morales and ideals and you have a shit mixer. I am not voting for segregation, but the essential problem of being a society needs to be answered before we can debate over views on stem cell research.
I ask you this Damien. What kind of medical system and technologies would we have if the Nazis never existed?

An excelent site of you want to learn about stem cells is http://stemcells.nih.gov/info/basics/basics6.aspAnd i dont sort of, i sometimes forget everyone doesnt know as much about stem cells and science as i do.

I don't know what you're trying to get at. In reply to: So it is Javas fault and people like her for being frustrated and not given the proper media attention? That sounds very backwards if you ask me. I wasn't blaming her for anything. I was just saying there needs to be less bitching and blaming and more information given. In reply to: If we are to keep religion and government seperate then we should by no means slow stem cell research It has nothing to do with religion. Morals possibly. And you can't separate morals from government. Otherwise there would be no laws against murder or rape or any such thing. It's just a matter of who's morals. You say "They aren't allowed to bring their morals into government" but at the same time want government to be based on your morals. You can't have it both ways. In reply to: How do you choose what is best for a nation of so many views. In reply to: I am not voting for segregation, but the essential problem of being a society needs to be answered before we can debate over views on stem cell research. This "essential problem of being a society" has been answered. It's called Democracy. Everyone gets a vote. Everyone gets a say so. You elect officials to represent you. You don't always like who wins, but they are who they are. Scientists have a valid viewpoint. Christians have a valid viewpoint. Everyone gets to be heard and name-calling should be kept to a minimum. What other problem are you talking about? In reply to: I ask you this Damien. What kind of medical system and technologies would we have if the Nazis never existed? It scares me to think where you are going here. But I think we all would have done just fine without the Nazis.

Thanks for the link Java.I bookmarked it so I can read it later.

In reply to: It scares me to think where you are going here. But I think we all would have done just fine without the Nazis. I'm wondering where he's going with that as well.

No problem If you need a link on anything science, i've got it.
-
I just looked at that link, as well as some others.I had no idea there was potential for research on stem cells taken from dental pulp. That's interesting.I'm all for research on adult stem cells or the already existing lines of embryonic stem cells. I just have problems with creating embryos for the purpose of study. That just crosses a line for me. It also appears to me that, when it comes to the "potential" for such research, the hopes have far outweighed the actual results over the past eight years. But I appreciate what you do.
-
I focus on the living people, and kids who need it, rather then the little embryos. I know there are a lot of people who disagree with me, but, when i see a kid that cant walk, or has xeroderma pigmentosum for exaple. we're almost able to fix. and, if and when we fix it, it will save a lot of people. I have a sort of...complex where i feel the desperate need that if some day i can save someone and let them live a normal life then mine hasnt been a waste. Now that I'm more calm, i can explain this whole thing better. Last week we got a notice, saying that our grant has been cut nearly a hundred thousdand dollars, while its not much to the project if thats all they take, but its been chopped to bits since december. $100,000 here and $100,000 there and the work is put to a stop
-
I was going in the direction that the research they did would have never been allowed. It was dangerous and the way we forme dour laws it would have been outlawed. I just think that the evidence has been provided to show that Bush Jr. has screwed up and is not taking care of pertinent issues for the S public and US foreign relations.

In reply to: There are 20 of you and 1 of me. Damien, were we not seperated by time zones there would be two of you

Thanks Strapper!
