Umm...Ok. When I'm constipated I usually just drink a huge glass of prune juice and eat a crapload of prunes. Yeah it works fine but is it harmful to my body? Ive never taken any laxatives and Ive heard they're harmful to your system. Is prune juice pretty much the same thing? Any long term effects I should know about?
From what I know...prunes and prune juice just add fibre, and that is the "healthy" stuff that keeps you regular.
Other things (milk of magnisia(sp) and Corectol, and Exlax) are stimulants.
Fibre holds some of the water and such that keeps you regular. The "other stuff" stimulates your bowels to contract, and can become addicting, because at some point the bowels become"lazy" and don't do the work on their own.
Just keep your diet rich in fibre (oat meal is great, and veggies and fruit...Prune or otherwise) and you shouldn't be "clogged" very often.

Definetly not harmful! I love prunes.. dont love what comes after it lol. Its really good to incorperate fiber into your diet. Having a bowl of bran flakes in the morning helps alot.. just keeps you regular, no diareah.
