Yesterday I woke up with this horrible pain in my left breast. I could only manage about three hours of school before I had to call my father and go to the Er. There was green discharge and everything... After about 3 hourse, they told me I may have an infection... blah blah blah, lots of pain, blah blah... Today I went in for a mammogram, which hurt a whole lot more... they told me I had a cyst, infected of course and that I would need the help opf a General surgeon... They perscribed percocet by the way, this stuff is awesome (Im on it now, it feels so wierd..) Anyway, so I just wanted to know... Would the surgeon be using general or local anesthesia? He may drain it, but I know for a fact that he is going to make a small insicion (Spelling?) to remove it completely because theyre afraid it would return...

well..it depends though, I think you should ask the surgeon before the procedure. From my study, there are 3 types of anesthesias..a. Local-which numbs just a part of your body for a short period of time EX. when you go to the dentistm they numb a tooth or gums. b. Regional- numbs a larger portion of your body EX. Upper or Lower part of your body.(C-section) c. General-this one puts you to sleep and it shuts down your sense of feeling.you will need an anesthesiologist for the procedure.EX. Plastic surgeriesBased on what you said,Im not sure though,u will have either the local or general.BTW, Goodluck though, Hope you'll get well soon

Do you get a choice? I know that when I got my wisdom teeth removed I had the choice of a general or more local anaesthetic. I chose the general, mainly because of the recommendation since a small amount of jaw bone needed to be removed in order to get at my lower wisdom teeth to properly remove them.
