For all the Americans on there, If you saw last weeks "Real time with Bill Maher"'s Opening skit,"att&sbc have merged with the nsa Making your calls crystal clear. we have to, we're recording them. Never further away then the van outside your house" you either laughed or cried. With all those at&t merging with sbc commercials, and the NSA Patriot act news, it was hilarious. On a more serious note, what do you all think about the renewing of the patriot act?
-
NSAT&TBC.
-
you only have to worry about it if your a terrorist.
-
No. You only have to worry about it if your doing something the government doesn't like.
-
well I don't care if the government knows what books I check out.
-
The 4th ammendmant is being shot all to hell, and as an american it makes me angry. We have a right to freedom, I have a right to talk to my funding company with out being having the goverment listening in.
-
Well I know if they read my emails they wont get anything or what books I check out of the library im not worried im not a terrorist. At least they give you the freedom of knowing.
-
Have you actually read the Patriot Act or tried to understand what it really is, as opposed to all the common un-wisdom out there? There is nothing in it that even comes close to compromising 4th ammendment rights, or any other rights. You won't be eavesdropped upon, unless you are a known terrorist making or receiving international calls to other known terrorist. This is all a bunch of unfounded hysterics. If you'll notice, all the politicians who were bitching and moaning about it actually voted to renew it when it was time.
-
thank you for clearing it up for me!
-
Who's being hysterical? I dont like that fact that they don't have to warn me before watching what I do. They don't need warrents. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_Intelligence_Surveillance_Act
-
well lets go and talk to osama "Hey bud I hope you don't mind if we listen to your phone conversations, alright thanks!"
-
firstly, any self respecting terrorist wouldnt use an unsecure line, secondly, they probably don't use phones and it isnt just about phones in the least. And osama probably isnt in the US
-
the moniter emails too, and still if he isn't in the U.S. another terrorist might. I say have a field day on all of em!
-
The patriot act (what an ironic and ridiculous name, that is) Infringes on our rights in the sense that if bush suspects anyone of anything (or any governmental agency) the NSA and the FBI can have a feild day with tapping everything. That isnt right. I have a right to say "I wish someone would blow up George W. Bush".
-
now lets not go throwing things like that around, what I am saying is that if you're not a terrorist then whats to worry?
-
I dont mean it literally, but i have the right to say what i want, and I have a right to privacy. You know they aren't ONLY going to be using it on terrorists.
-
well just be a law abiding person and just watch what you say in airports!
-
I am law abiding, but what i work with isn't very well loved with the Bush administration, and as far as airports go, so long as they use the random searching, nothing will change.
-
In reply to: The patriot act (what an ironic and ridiculous name, that is) Infringes on our rights in the sense that if bush suspects anyone of anything (or any governmental agency) the NSA and the FBI can have a feild day with tapping everything. That isnt right. You can keep saying that until the cows come home dear, but that doesn't make it true...at all. They can't just randomly eavesdrop on American citizens cause they don't like what you're up to. I think you're falling for a line here. In reply to: I have a right to say "I wish someone would blow up George W. Bush". Well...that's the one place where you might want to be careful. Edit The Wikpedia articles, although not where I would recommend you go for the most accurate government information, actually makes my point and not yours. Did you miss the part where it statest that FISA excludes "US persons"?
-
I realize that they have to think somethings going on, they dont pick up a phone book. But, If people think its going to just be used on possible terrorists...
-
I think I was editing my last post as your were posting...It clearly cannot be used on "US persons". Only on foreign entities (including governments). Read it more carefully. What you are saying has no basis in law, fact, or anywhere. It's like saying "be careful cause George Bush is gonna run down your Granny with a '68 Camaro."
