Hey, I was told not to workout when sick, though I didn't take heed of this a worked out normally while I had just a mild cold. Now i've a "stinker" and its a pain in the ass because I now can't work out a all.The main question is when you turn sick, is it recommended to workout or stay in bed and will this effect your progression in any way? Thanks in advance.

Illness + workingout = bad?
-
Not long ago I became sick with a bad cold. I was constantly stuffed up, tired, and had a sore throat. This was only the week before time trials for the upcoming 200m relay race. I pushed myself too hard when it hit and didn't rest properly on the weekend. When the time trials came around I ran a slow time. Not only that, but I was sick for almost another week after that because I kept on running in trying to get faster to make up for it (I was in a 200m individual event anyways).Take it easy and don't push yourself when you're sick. It's not worth it. You'll tire yourself out and that training won't be very effective.

hmmm I usually get some great workout while sick, but then again I am weird...lol
-
What is your 200m time?
-
Not too great, since I'm mostly a distance runner. I got 26.8 for my race. I was surprised I made 200 individual, but I was one of only two people (for two positions) who wanted to do it.
I only got 27.4 in the time trials so I was short of making one of the relay teams.

Wow thats odd my personal record is 26.79... very close.. yah i am the opposite of you i SUCK at distance running but pretty good at sprinting considering i am a freshman in highschool with that time.
-
For freshman that's great. I've been trying to improve my time since I was in gr. 10 so this is what I've been working towards in the indoor track season. At your age I don't think I could've broken 29
-
Well thats good... which do you prefer an indoor track or outdoor?
-
Outdoor, because for indoor we train for the "Journal Games"; something that runs every year in our city and consists of 200m team/individual and 800m individual. I much prefer outdoor where there's far more events and the maximum distance goes up to 3k, although I wish there were a 5k or 10k. Not only that, but it's nice to run outside in the warm weather, feel some wind on your face and the sun shining. Especially after the winter here, I really value being able to get outside in the sun during the spring/summer since we don't get much sunlight during the winter.
-
Yah same here for outdoor... and for us and im sure its the same for you but the tracks are smaller so you have to take more turns... unless its really cold out i like out door more.
-
Yah, we use a 200m track in indoor. We need to get rides there or bike because it's not right by the school. On the other hand, we have an outdoor 400m track in our school field.
How's the weather there? It's dipping a bit below zero late at night but other than that it's much warmer than before and the snow is melting. Finally able to take my jacket off and not get cold. It looks like the snow is going to be gone until next winter right away so outdoor should be coming very soon for us.
I bet those from the southern states would think I'm odd, wearing no jacket and a t-shirt when the weather is hardly above freezing.

One of our track meets was like 17 degrees... i hate the cold so it bothers me but alot of people it doesnt.. its just the wind that kills me.. i live by chicago by the way... we have an outdoor 400m track and thats it. but a school in our conference has an indoor track. And also tonight i got a new personal record.. i ran a 26.2 in the 200m!! im so happy

Yah, I noticed you were from Illinois. I was just talking in general. I heard something funny from my teacher who travelled to Texas over spring break when he got into a conversation with someone who couldn't believe he was wearing shorts and a t-shirt when it was like 12 celsius (about 54 fahrenheit).Congratulations on the time, that's great.

If the suns out and its like 50-60 im usally in a t shirt and pants or maybe a long sleeved shit..thank you
