-

-
damnit now I gotta clean my pants.
-
What a great video clip of Van Halen ….Recorded in New Haven, CT in 1986, and released the following year. This clip from the concert was part of the 5150 tour, Van Halen's first tour with lead singer Sammy Hagar..."See we still had the magic after you left.... Bye Bye David Lee Roth"
-
The ironic thing was that Roth was much better without Van Halen, and Van Halen was much better without Roth.
-
Damn right... Van Halen Rocks ... Check the rolling stones magazin top 100 guitarists the people who chose it are probaly fucked up and not even musicians
-
You're probably right. Most of them aren't musicians but critics.
-
Those critics need to go to high school and take guitar there since they teach not electric not acoustic but classical its how i started and made me enjoy i was never an artist person lolMusic my generation are just sell out people dont do it out of love but for money, thats how people are viewing it now
-
Those critics are getting paid to be critics, why fuck up a good gig and go back to start something new?you dont need to play to be able to judge.if it sounds good or sounds like shit, people that cant play know the difference.Personally I fucking hate vanhalen.Ill give credit where its due, vanhalen himself is a hell of a guitarist, I just hate that bands music, that shit comes on my radio I change the station.
-
I agree with chance here. These critics do not have to play. Also the list of guitarists is right. Hendrix will always be number 1, why is that so hard for people to grasp. Maybe you do not like what he plays but he is by far the best guitarist to play.
-
On that I have to say Stevie Ray Vaugh, he did Hendrix better then Hendrix did himself.based only on talent uptp this day in history, Ill go with SRV. Everythign I hear from KWS getrs better and better thoughf. I like Hendrix, I even list him on the all time greats but I dont think he was better then SRV.
-
All the guitarists have their own unique style and stage performances... ex. Angus Young runs around like a headless chicken lol
-
In reply to: you dont need to play to be able to judge. But if you're gonna judge something, you should know a bit more than the common man about what you're judging. It's okay if they are just saying "this is a great album and here's why". But for people who don't know how to play guitar to say who is the better guitar player...that's what I have problems with. If you don't know the difference between a b-flat minor and an A# diminished chord, or basic chord progressions, you're not qualified to tell me that Hendrix is a better guitarist than Eddie. In reply to: Hendrix will always be number 1, why is that so hard for people to grasp. So you think if you keep saying it, we'll all have to fall in line? It's a ruse, a sham, a myth that's been perpetrated for decades. He may have had an incredibly unique style and been influential as far as style goes, but you can't convince me he is a better guitarist than Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Ray, or Bruce Cockburn...or Eric Clapton for Pete's sake.

Damn right!!!! we need this like stickied or sumthing best damn points right there. I write my own songs so i mostly choose the sad songs, easier to write, so i put them in low chords somethimes wiht little power chords but yea. If you dont even know how to do a simple arpeggiation or 3 basic chords you cannot tell what is good or not!
-
Hey, you don't have to be musician to simply judge a song. The complexity of a song (chords, rhythm, melody) give always some extra points to a song, but inspiration can be expressed into simple songs, too. When a composer can write inspired songs with awesome chords and melody, then this is truly a masterpiece :P
Of course, a guitar player can judge better another guitarist, but there's sometimes another factor, too.
Finally, if you write some songs, try to break the rhythm a bit by adding some different chords (sometimes I use in a sad song some majors or 7ths :P)
-
The greatest guitarists do not use thier hands. There is nothing between their own mind and the guitar. You can see it clearly in videos. I'm not sure how this happens, but it's f**king awesome.
"Practice. I used to sit on the edge of my bed with a six-pack of Schlitz Malt talls. My brother would go out at 7 P.M. to party and get laid, and when he'd come back at 3 A.M., I would still be sitting in the same place, playing guitar. I did that for years --- I still do that."-Eddie Van Halen in a 1996 interview

Ill never say hendrix was better then anyone, only that he was great. Ill stick with the same opinion Iv had since the mid 80's, Stevie Ray Vaugh is the greatest guitarist to ever have lived so far. He couldnt even read music, self taught and never did learn to read music before his death in a helicopter accident. His life was an epic of alchohol and his struggles to overcome it. often when he started in bars and shit his band took the break and he sat on the stage playing what ever guitar happen to be laying closest to him. He didnt play songs then, just what he felt, he had the most raw talent of any guitarist to ever get a recording contract. He created "Texas Blues" or "guitar Blues" take your pick Iv heard his shit called both. He only played with pure feeling and emotion, if you can play its one thing, to write music and lyrics and not be able to read the notes but have to play it out each time in your head to memorize it and not fuck it all up is an amazing capability. I never like Jimmy Vaughn, but the album he did with his brother was fucking great.Ill give credit to Eddie for his aility to play guitar, Ill never give him credit for beig the best ever.I realize you hadnt responded to mewhen I jumped in with this post, I just wanted to state my opinion.Thats the nice thing about music and whos gfreat and who sucks, its all a matter of opinion so nomatter what anyone says I cant be wrong
-
well I personally say Hendrix is the best just b/c of his huge influence, and the fact he was a bad ass guitarist too. But I do not believe Halen should be up there in that same echelon as SRV, Hendrix, and KWS....it is just not the same.
-
He may have been a bad ass guitaist, but I think his stuff is crap. I can't stand listening to his playing, at least whatever is on the radio etc...
