How can you or me be sure that any site is free. It might say free in the thing but it is not often. It doesn't say anything in the results no key no nothing. And this is for any other search engine as well. Are there any tell tale signs?

Google
-
What the hell are you talking about? Google has free e-mail, chat, and search engine.....Not sure what you are talking about.
-
No,, i mean the results on the search engine.
-
hahahahaha you must be new to computers....Let me guess...looking for free porn? Google has a comprehensive list of all those pages, they do not control what is free and what is not. When you search the terms are looked for on that page and if it matches then you get that result. The results on the right hand side are for those companies to make money. They pay google to have them placed there when someone searches for that topic.
-
So i guess you can't really tell whether a site is free or not?
-
there are free websites out there, but they make there money through other methods, if they are a business. You can only find out by looking around on the webpage...or research the webpage through other people to see if they have had any experience.

OK Thanks
-
no problem

Man...what the heck happened to our thread about free porn sites? Was it on the old board?? Is there any way to find it and bring it back from the dead?
-
we do not advocate handing out information like that anymore.
-
Well I kinda figured that. lol

awwww man there goes my day...jk

Quoc, I think you're worried that a website might charge you by stealth. If you don't give a credit card number it can't do that. (There can be bad software that looks on your computer for your credit card number - you should never store it there.)

In reply to: (There can be bad software that looks on your computer for your credit card number - you should never store it there.) What do you mean by "store it there"?I pay my credit card bills on line and they have my checking account info stored on their sites. Does that make me vulnerable to theft, or can I assume their sites are secure?

he has a valid question. I have gone on sites and had them start charging my parents bill with out entering anything. So it is possible. Don't ask me how. I just know it is. Tips? avoid the "free preview" button. I used to be one weird kid...

A reputable place should store your information securely, though sometimes not securely enough. If they store your number on a cookie on your machine, it should be encrypted, but it's possible to imagine that it may not always be. You could try doing a search of the hard disk for the number.

The Canadian Imperial Bank Of Commerce had admitted that there was fraud and theft of peoples personal information online. I thought that I could have trusted them. Nothing is 100% secure. Simple example non internet related. If you have a keyless entry system, someone across from you in a parking lot could use a decoder to get your car. Simply put everything can be decoded. Thats why programers work hard at trying to keep them secure, but there is always a way and often it's an insider job. When I first got into computers, I had accidently downloaded a porn dialer. Well since I had high speed internet, there was no way for it to work. Modem connections are real bad for this type of thing. The best you can get are some free pics or a sample video, but even some sample videos come with a virus or worm same as some sites try to place something on your system that you dont want. Make sure that you have a real good firewall, antivirus and anti spyware. Alot of websites keep your IP address forever, so your never 100% safe.
