Didn't want to come out and say it since it's kind of embarressing and personal but it's kind of like, avoiding or dealing with people who constantly treat you a certain way because of what influences them... about that type of person. If that makes sense.

Degradation

In reply to: And SYL, the thing is with that. People LOVE that and are worshipped for being just like that. And how are they portrayed as? Just curious. TV portrays men as being somehow worse than women. That we have no self control and just go out and cheat constantly. This has contributed to the one sided views held by many people today. I'm surrounded by girls at college, being rhe only male on my course, and I can say with absolute assurety that girls are just as bad as guys. The media presentation of guys being the ones who cheat while girls are the victims just isnt true. Its grossly unfair to men. While at the same time, almost contradictorally, girls are now glorified when they sleep around...but they still get the whole "victim" treatment, while men are just straight bad.And mens bodies are as objectified as much as womens nowadays, and I for one have felt annoyance at that. There was a show on TV the other week called "The perfect Penis". Theres no pretending that objectification in one sided anymore.Perhaps male degradation is further progressed in the UK, I'm not sure. I'm not saying anything you said was wrong, indeed what you said was absolutely right, what I'm pointing out is that its dreadfully unfair how people often forget how modern stereotyping is damaging to white males as much as anyone else...more so perhaps cos noone stands up for us, our plight goes unnoticed.
-
I think it's wrong and humiliating(ms), but what I think it worse is there are plently of people who play into those stereotypes. Years ago women were supposed to stay in the kitchen and look sexy, now they're supposed to go work in the same fields as men and still look 'sexy' because that's what women are. Sex symbols. It's pathetic the way people see things....
-
while men arent supposed to be sexy atall, no pressure there rolls-eyes
-
I didn't say that they aren't. There is pressure on both sexes, but I believe there is more on women than men to be honest. But that is my personal opinion.
-
i think women are very much stereotyped as being weak by the media..on the other side. if you watch tv or films the women are always the weak housewife while the man is the strong one with a good job etc it pisses me off...i completely agree with you when you say men are being protrayed as guys who constantly cheat etc etc but on the the other side i hate it the fact that when i pick up a womans magazine it gives you stupid articles like '10 ways to spot that your boyfriend is cheating on you'...argh i hate it! i think either way the media gets it wrong with both male and female roles
-
I TOTALLY disagree with...respectfully, of course.
The media, particularly telivision, constantly portrays men as laughable buffoons. Show me one sitcom where the husban/man is not a stupid oaf who is always being shown up by his wife. Even commercials. Any commerical where there is any kind of discussion, argument, contest, whatever...the woman always wins. It's like it's a cardinal sin anymore to have a man be right and a woman be wrong.I think our world operates on extremes. When something needs to be corrected, the pendulum seems to swing too far in the other direction.

Aye exactly that kind of thing! I read womens magazines for hair stuff if they have it, sometimes, and one article I remember "Why men cant commit". Oh common! This just creates a "victim" attitude which is not healthy and covers the truth....that we're all in the same damned boat.
We need tos top going "Women women women" or "Blacks blacks blacks", and start tlaking about PEOPLE! We've all just came out of the same darn assed century which put us all in positions we niether understand nor have any experience with. We can only get through it if we accept that we are all in need of help, that we are all living in a darn awkward society that doesnt know whether its here nor there.
-
In reply to: if you watch tv or films the women are always the weak housewife while the man is the strong one with a good job etc it pisses me off I'm not sure thats true. The amount of movies/TV where the roles are reversed are quite considerable nowadays....take Tomb Raider, The Quick and the Dead, Elektra, Buffy (RIP), Kill Bill...there are a good number of strong females in Tv and movies now.
-
what i was saying it goes 2 ways..sure i see loads of guys being presented stupid as in tv but to express me point, lolm in medical dramas you see this classic example a lot of a women being lower down in the ladder than a man...well here in the uk anyway...eg you will hardly ever see a really sucessful female doctor for example and if you do shes usually a complete unrelatable bitch..most of the female roles are nurses and most of the high up doctors are men. things like that annoy me or many hollywood films you see the most awful roles for women who play the doting wife to some highflier. match point now thats a great movie for that misoginistic tone...what an awful movie, in my opinion.
-
Tomb Raider, The Quick and the Dead, Elektra, Buffy (RIP), Kill Bill<<<And they're nothing but sexed up, clevage baring, tight fitting clothed females on a power kick who are out to save the world ::rolls eyes:: Those types of movies get on my nerves! And yes, they do it to men too, take X-Mex or one of the many Batman movies for example. They play up the sex appeal, make the younger people believe that's how they're supposed to look like... It's rather annoying
-
that's not what I meant either. I'm talking about how what people see on tv affects the way they treat others in real life. I don't know what tv you watch but here girls are just sex objects. And last time I checked, the hollywood business was overrun by caucasian males. But who knows.
and you know? wow a very offensive comment that was previously made but I'll just be quiet before I start something. -
well Katie, quick and the dead wasnt about saving the world more about vengeance and justice, and it was made old west style so there wasnt any cleavage really most of the time she had some big trenchcoat type thing, same with kill bill, vengeance and justice except ya they did have tight outfits, now buffy that was somewhat annoying at times, but not so much a power kick more like a power roundhouse kick lol,her role was written to not like the whole "must save the world bit but ill do it anyways" i may be wrong but i cant remember seeing the main character being all "i am woman hear me roar" bullshit, and thank you straping its about dam time someone else recognized it
-
In reply to: and you know? wow a very offensive comment that was previously made but I'll just be quiet before I start something. What on earth are you reffering to? Nothing offensive has been said about anyone. Okay I think I do know what your refferin to...my "blacks blacks blacks" comment...well read it and you will say all I say is that we are ALL people. Is it offensive that both blacks and whites are people? Wow.
-
In reply to: And yes, they do it to men too, take X-Mex or one of the many Batman movies for example. They play up the sex appeal, make the younger people believe that's how they're supposed to look like... It's rather annoying Exactly! It goes both ways and we all suffer for it.
-
I t all comes down to whether people fall for all the shit they see on TV and in films or whether they have a brain after all...........that also depends on age i think, young people try to live up to stereotypes more, the older you get the more you see if for the crap it is.
-
roar! lol see this is what I was trying to prevent and it happened anyway. ridculoso. just forget it. off day, very off day.more than one offensive comment, dude, and you really took it out of proportion.
-
except power rangers gotta love them power rangers
-
first, we all (or most of us) have the ability of self determination. This old idea of blaming media for the actions of the audience is crap.. always has been, always will be.The audience came before the media.Blaming porn for rudeness is like blaming Marilyn Manson for Columbine. When will people start taking ownership? "I'm inocenct! I only did it 'cause I saw Bugs Bunny do it!"Oh, and if you want to see male degredation, just watch a commercial for a houshold product. Good thing there are heroic wives to save the retarded husbands!!!
-
FINALLY , god i was getting sick of everyone blaming the damn media, and how come you always hear its objectifying women when they become strippers but when a man does it its just good fun?
