HiI'm 17 years old and for most of my life I have been hidden away in my room playing video games. However recently I've taken a new interest in fitness, weight lifting, and sports. I have lost alot of weight, and am reaching my target body, but one thing is really holding me back, my complection.I guesse that the years of staying indoors really took a toll on me, I'm pale white. This makes me feel less attractive, but even worste it makes the sun my worste enemy! I burn easily, and I tan slowly. Recently I've been trying to tan, I use tanning lotion and bath in the sun, but I havn't really seen any results. I know I can tan, as I do have a bit of a farmers tan going, but I want to to tan the rest of my body! My legs esspecially, as they are about as white as my butt :P. Well if anybody has any tips for tanning, I would love to hear them. I don't have access to any indoor tanning booths so mark that one off the list. PS: by the way I hear that different kinds of people tan differently, so for the record I am a caucasion male, blue eyes brown hair, scottish/english descent primarily.

Is it safe to sun bath daily? Or should I have a weekly schedule for these kind of things? I don't want to push it, but I'm not a patient man :P

In reply to: Is it safe to sun bath daily Hey there congratz on the body conditioning!Actually I'll be the first to tell you to stay out of the sun! And in response to your question, there's no such thing as a safe tan.Tanned skin is damaged skin. There's no other way of describing it. When your skin is tanned, it has been damaged by the sun. Your skin tans (releases melanin) in response to the sun's damage. Many people say that a tan looks healthy, however it is in fact UNhealthy.Helmsman is correct in that a tan won't happen overnight - so don't go out on a long day burning and be disappointed when you don't see a tan. It'll take about 5 days of light sun exposure to start seeing a tan, however I strongly advise against it.Now I live in the skin cancer capital of the world, Australia (even more specific it's probably Sydney). I'm only 25 but have had two skin cancers removed, with about 5 other suspects removed. Luckily both of them were Basal cell carcinomas which are the least dangerous type. I never deliberately tanned, but was burnt a few times as a child.Every time you tan/burn, you increase your chances of getting skin cancer. Does it still seem worth it?Remember, tanned skin is damaged skin, and each time you do it, you're increasing your chances of skin cancer. Not only that, but you'll age much quicker. What's the point of trying to look tanned now if you'll look like you have crocodile skin later on in life? Is it worth risking death? There are people in this world that would give anything to turn back the clock and undo the damage that they've done, as they're fighting for their lives right now. Do you want to be one of those people?
