This completely ignores the most recent research. I don't think there were functional MRI (FMRI) machines in 1994. Lot's of things have been published since then on the subject. There really is evidence that there are differences in brain functioning, whether or not those differences are based in genetics. There is apparently a critical time in fetal development where the level of hormones (principally, testosterone) affects brain development and functioning. In any case, there's no good evidence that homosexuality is not influenced by chemicals, environment, or genetics, and that homosexuality is a choice. Therefore, laws that discriminate against homosexuals are not based on anything scientific. I'll leave it to you to decide what they are based on.

hello ,
ok ive read some stuff about genes and envimromental factors, for my sceince tests and etc , im 16 btw
and WHile there may be a gay gene ,not much is jsut controlled by genes , envimrmental factors may change this as well
for instance
lets say you had this gay gene
and then your first crush during the BI peroid most teens go through is a man
the "gay gene" PLUS the fact your first crush happened to me male , may make you gay
where as if you had the gay gene, but the first freind you made in secionday school was a girl who flirtered with you , then that may affect how the gay gene is via this envimromental factor
so in conclsion , yes there may be a gay gene (i wonder if it sprinkles gliter everywhere and wears tight leather), i doubt that this gay gene is the only reason envriomental factors in genreal have a stronger affect on your peronsality than just genes
anyway i hope i that proves that 16 year olds are caplable of making a non biased account of things
and in reply to the oringal thread, there was progma on tv about a man who went to gay re-hab in amercia
it dindt work

Genes play a alrge factor in many different areas of the human body.
Saying, if there is a gay gene, that it isn't the main reason a person is gay is like saying the gene a blonde has to get blonde hair isn't the main reason she's blonde.
Just an example as I am pressed for time lol.
-
being gay is a relationship , a peronsality thing, its perfecltey natrual and if you view another peronsalit thing such as being a bully , most bullys tend to have a emtional issue at some point
and genes while they control them slighty , arent the only control
where as being blonde cant be affected by envirmental factors (other than dyeing)
lol ,the genes vs envimrmetanl arguemnt has raged for ages

Being gay is an emotional thing when it comes to being emotionally involved and loving another person of the same sex. Being a High School bully is different than being homosexual. Bully are usually bullies on how they were raised, so that's environment and nuture. One example I can give on the gay side of things. There have been children raised in a gay environment (raised by gay parents) and they turned out straight. I am not saying your opinion is wrong but there is more information towards homosexuality being a genetic issue than an environment issue.
-
oh i didnt mean to compare bullys to gays at all, best example i could think off in the time i had but yh , youre right altough it makes you wonder, if its in the genes, some sicko could make a cure and enforece it upon you
-
In reply to: some sicko could make a cure and enforece it upon you Sounds like X-Men 3. I think a lot of that trilogy had to do with the problems gays have to deal with.
-
Are you saying gay people are mutants?
-
I am and I possess the power of giving Ultimate Orgasms
-
I wonder what my power will be.... Ponder!
-
lol , you could get a cape
no im not saying gays are mutnants at all, im jsut saying if it is down to genes, then anything can be changed, straight people could become gay and vice versa
-
Just use this..."It's important to stress what I didn't find. I did not prove that homosexuality was genetic, or find a genetic cause for being gay. I didn't show that gay men are born that way, the most common mistake people make in interpreting my work. Nor did I locate a gay center in the brain INAH-3 is less likely to be the sole gay nucleus of the brain than a part of a chain of nuclei engaged in men and women's sexual behavior...Since I looked at adult brains we don't know if the differences I found were there at birth, or if they appeared later" (D. Nimmons, "Sex and the brain," Discover [March 1994), 64-71).

Ok before I post some background info on myself and my life. I am male, I am not gay, I am not bi and I am not religious and nor is my family. None of my family are openly gay. My ex-collegue who I got along with very well was gay and was one of the funniest people I ever met. More recently my twin brothers friend came out about being gay to family and friends and not a SINGLE person said anything negative about it, atleast to my knowledge.I will ignore the religious bullshit that was said by Purple Stain, who obviously does NOT appear to be Christian at all, or if he is he is justifying homophobic behavior by saying he is. Next comes the issue of the 'gay gene' personaly I think this could exist, it would seem to make some sense. Going back to the main topic I do NOT believe you can change your sexual orientation, but I believe it can change over time (during puberty and sexual experimentation age). The friend who recently came out I know for a fact has had sex with girls and had multiple girl friends from 14-19. However he now says he isn't even Bi, just homosexual, which some people found hard to understand but to me it makes perfect sense, he was brought up to believe (through media, peer pressure and to a lesser extent schooling) that being homosexual was somehow 'not right' or atleast 'abnormal' (I say that not in a 'freak' way, more away from the norms of generaly accepted behavior.) and so when he was younger he admits he felt pressurised into getting girlfriends and having straight sex. As he matured and is now 19, he does not have to rely on what other people say and think and is of a mental and physical age to make the decision on his own.(The last part about him being brought up that way is his opinion, not mine. Although it is an opinion I share with him. )

Since this thread has been dredged up for no good reason, and since you are as dense as a brick, I'll repeat the the first paragraph of a post I put up above yours, which you seem not to have read:In reply to:This completely ignores the most recent research. I don't think there were functional MRI (FMRI) machines in 1994. Lot's of things have been published since then on the subject. There really is evidence that there are differences in brain functioning, whether or not those differences are based in genetics. Are you just going to continue to cite 12-year-old data that (sort of) supports your case, but not pay attention to all of the data and studies that have come out since 1994 that contradict your idea? Must every discussion be a religious discussion?
