I'm not going to be like the usuals. But I'm just wondering if you guys ever dated a person who was a family member but you didn't know it. This has happened to me so many times it's ridiculous. Mostly just cousins though. At least 6 by now. Not a full on relationship but a "oh wow he's cute" type of thing. I just did it today but he's not even related to me so it shouldn't count. I just found out this guy I had a mini crush on is my soon to be brother in law's little brother. Stinkyness!!! He was hott. A bit too horny but whatever. This ever happened to you guys? Do tell.

Ever dated a relative
-
Yup. I gave my phone number to my cousin at the mall when I was like 15. We talked for a few weeks, and even went to the movies together. Thankfully nothing happened between us. As we were in the get-to-know-eachother phase he mentioned his mothers name. I was like, "i have an auntie named Barbara" One thing led to another and we discovered we were cousins. Thats one bad thing about having a big family, you can never be too sure you arent dating a relative.
-
i dont know about a relative, but i did date a girl who a few months after that became my niece so that was pretty damn awkward
-
How the hell did that happen?
-
my brother adopted her and her 3 sisters,at the time it was like a big brother big sister program with her younger sister and she came once too and just went from there and last november they adopted them
-
Well that was nice of him.
-
lol we only dated the month of january so it wasnt a big deal
-
I just find it odd that you guys don't know who your cousins are. maybe it's an American thing.
-
I have 7 cousins, 4 on my Dad's side and 3 on my Mom's. I have met all of them and known all of them since I was very young, even tho most of them are in their 20s or 30s. I'm the second youngest out of all of my cousins.
-
actually I think its a big thing everywhere not jsut america.my immidiate family I know, up through cousins even some second cousinsf, but not all and after that pfffft it goes all to shit. Now on my dads side I know his sister and thats about it.his moms side I know them but because of a large land grabbing battle thats gone on since the 50's and is still in court fthrowing dollar after dollar to lawyers, I dont know most of them but my dads, dads family are forever lost to me.fmy grandpa moved out here in the CCC's when he was 14 and lied aout his age and looke dold enought to pass. He came from Ohio and his own dad wasa bastard, he ran from home and a black family took him in and hid him for a ffew months, he ran from there when people started looking into the family he stayed with and rode the rails for a while till the CCC's came about and joined them, that brought him to Utah, he worked, met my grandma, and raised hsi family, He died before I was born by a few years and he never reestablished contact with his family, My dad told me that when they went back to ohio when he as a kid they stayed with and visited the balck family that he stayed with fwhen he first ran. Thats who he considered family, not the ones who gave him birth and beat his ass so that whole side of my family is lost to me. actually Eddie could be my cousin and Id never know. EDIT:If occured tome that unless you had a grandfather or someone on the CCCs or happened to be a history buff or knew alot of the "new deal" and the great depression, you wouldnt know what the CCC's were so I offer this link should you care to add to your knowledge or desire an explanation: The CCC's

in reply to:"I just find it odd that you guys don't know who your cousins are. maybe it's an American thing."My biological father has 8 siblings... ( 5 brothers and 3 sisters.) I am all grown up now and have my own family . In all those years and I had never seen them, met them or thier kids.... I never even met my grandparentsSomething happened to him when he was in college and he never spoke to his family again.
-
Yeah I guess things happen to people and they get cut off from family. It's one thing if you don't or never had contact with your family, but I found it weird that Japanfan knew he was a cousin becasue of her aunt but didn't know him. Apparently they live close enough to where she would run into her cousins.
IDK, I know my family and extended family both here and in Europe. That's why I find it strange.
-
I wish I knew them. I know what cities most of them live in but I was never permitted to contact them. Now that I'm older I would like to locate them and perhaps get to know them, but I keep thinking how awkward it would be and feel and I'm also afraid what my father will say or do.... It’s funny. No matter how old I am, I am still afraid to anger or disappoint my parents…. Oh Brother. How pathetic is that???
-
I find that strange as well. I know all of my family...many of them all to well. Assholes...Them, not you all...LoL
-
I found kind of odd as well... of course I come from a very large family. I have over 20 first cousins and plenty of seconds and thirds... and I know every one of them. Of course there are days I wish I could hide under a rock and pretend I didn't know who they were lol
-
Ha ha!! I heard that loud and clear Katie!!I have 24 first cousins alone and most of whom I grew up with. The thing with my family is that everyone is loud, obnoxious and always in each other's business. They've all got their heads so far up one another's butt's if one turned a corner too fast the other's neck would break. And all of my cousin's are having babies now. One of my uncle's has at least 3 kids I've never met - and I stress at least because he could have more. And I also have three cousins who are not able or old enough (they're just babies...Rayden is 2, cody is 11 and Dillon passed away when he was 8). I have 15 second cousins right now and I know every one of them. Like I said my parents always stressed the importance of family and knowing where you come from. I don't think there's anyone in my family that I don't know. But yeah...I gotta agree with you Katie there are definitely times where I wish I could just walk the other way and say, "I don't know them...." lol
-
Have you ever watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding? I swear that's my family! lol I know they based that movie on us!
-
THey based a movie on my family too! Have you ever seen Natural Born Killers?
-
hehe.. Chance my cousin. I could only imagine LoL.Though it would be fun, I admit hehe
-
I wish I had a close family growing up. I think that becasue I didn't have that growing up, I'm really tight with my kids
