I know that so very many people (mostly teenagers) come on hear stating that
a) they're about 5-6 inches long and
b) they know loads of bigger guys
and generally replies are along the lines of the average is 5.5 inches, and being a teenager you'll probably grow more anyway.
Ny question is this... since my generation (I'm 18) is a couple on inches taller than my parents generation (I'm 6 foot 1 and so is my 20 year old brother, my Dad is 5 foot 10), shouldn't that mean two things? That the average penis size has increased as well as height since those reports were done decades ago, and also people are reaching maturity earlier, so these teenagers may not have any more growing to do. What do you think?

Generation gap...

Well, the latest major scientific penis size study was done by Lifestyles condoms in Cancun, Mexico about a year or two ago. They measured the erect penis size of college aged volunteers who were on spring break there. They measured 300 guys. Since these guys were in college, they are about your age, and your generation, about age 18-22. The average erect size was found to be 5.877 inches, with a girth of 4.9 inches. This is smaller than the average size reported by the Kinsey Institute who did a survey in the 1940's, which showed an average of 6.2 inches. However, the Kinsey study relied on survey respondents to measure themselves and return an anonymous postcard in with the results. Whereas the Lifestyles study had nurses measure the penises to prevent lying or incorrect measurements. There was a similar study done in Brazil a year before the Lifestyles study, and they found the same results. I think these studies show that the average is in fact just under 6 inches, and average penis size has not increased over the past generation or two. Keep in mind that although average height has probably increased slightly the past few generations, there is no correlation between height and penis size. In other words, a taller guy does not usually have a larger penis than a shorter guy.

There have been quite a few recent studies, including one in Italy that got an average something like 5.1" (non-bonepressed, I think), that all suggest adult sizes haven't increased. It's quite possible, indeed likely, that people are maturing earlier, though. We know that the age that girls get their first period continues to decline.

Wow this is really interesting. Guys are staying the same, but girls are maturing much faster (earlier average for first period was 16, now its 11)

At this rate, girls will be born having their periods!

And guys will never grow up.

Actually, there was a recent study that identified the average age that puberty started in boys and girls, identified by the age of first signs of sperm (spermarche), and first menstruation in girls (menarche), and they compared it to a similar study done decades ago (I think it was the 1940's or 50's). And, despite popular belief, the average age of puberty onset has not changed over the past 50 years or so. I can't find the original study, but here is an article talking about the media hype about puberty starting earlier, with the actual statistics showing that it hasn't changed:http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/1999/10/22/puberty/print.html
