Im curently on the Pill at the moment and i was just wondering whether if i was to take antibiotics whether they would interrupt the effectiveness of the Pill? Ive been told yea it could and no it cant!!!

Just a question?

Yes Antibiotics lower your birth controls effectiveness and gives you a much higher chance to get pregnant. Yet on the other side that’s no reason not to take your antibiotics because they were prescribed to you for a reason. If you are going to be sexually active during the period you are on the antibiotics just take extra precaution like your partner using a condom.

thanks ntroducingmyself. my mum was suggesting i take antibiotics to clear my tonsilitis up.

You're Welcome.
Trust me take the antibiotics. It's not worth to remain sick, especially with something like tonsillitis. I suffered with that for years before I had my tonsillectomy so I know the pain. Just take extra precautions and you'll be fine.

yeh i was actually on antibiotics last week and im also on the pill - the doctor told me that you should take extra precaution because anti biotics mess with the effectivness of the pill

Antibiotics, while necessary to take care of an infection, will limit the effectiveness of the pill. Use another contraception method until after you have taken the full course of antibiotics.

Talking to your doctor is your best bet.
