Hey, I was wondering what you all thought of stem cell research. Do you think it is ethical? I have a debate on it tomorrow in biotech. Some opinions would be a big help!

Stem cell research
-
with this conversation going, I really wish java was here as thats along the lines of what she does and studys.personally i think its fine, it is where the cure to many deseases lay, if you have a baby just to get eh stem cells it wrong, but when all the abortions are going into garbage cans anyways what the fuck is wrong with using them for research ?There is mor to this argument, so much more, I need to see if I can track down java and persuade her to return to the baords for a night or two... I think she is traveling right now and not near a coputer though... Not sure.

Stem cell research is awesome and should be done to prevent diesese and shit. I know Bush is too much of a "christian" to allow it. Maybe one day we can grow an extra arm too.
-
It is, fuck the little fetuses, we will use them to make more anyway! you can use the thing to cure paralysis too!
-
Bush never said it's completely banned. He said that there will be no more government funding provided to new research lines. Stem cells are regenerative. They can just continue to build off the same lines anyway. So by doing that he's not really hindering the research.
-
Lol i can tell someone here read TIME Magazine :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
-
A big part of biotechnology deals with ethics. We have to know that. And its just more proof that Bush is indeed a dumbass.
-
Yea, we learnt about it in Biology and Biotech. I cannot belive people actually wanna "farm" humans to save others we are raising them then killing them. Dont think thats how the Human Rights thing goes but ok.
-
I definatly don't agree with the "human farming" thing. It's a form of cloning though anyway (right?) so its illegal. As far as embryonic stem cell research though I don't agree with the use of an embryo when it has become a fetus. I draw the line when its a blastocyst (5-7 days after conception) when the embryo has not yet differentiated and is still technically just a mass of cells.
-
Sadly it is what we are doing, Cloning is just stupid, everyone is unique why would we want to clone peopleOh wait we should clone Da Vinci or Edison let them invent us more thins!!...and Tesla!
-
See if they could farm them they would be lifeless without a heart and brain I read. So in a sense its not that bad.
-
Um nope real life things just like you and me! If your going for it you dont mid the goverment coming in your house killing you and taking your stem cells do you? thats how it will go.
-
Yeah sounds like something bush would do, send in the troops to get stem cells.
-
Difficult subject. "Human farming" is something that I would would oppose on all grounds and conditions. However, just growing a body part is completely fine by me. Just think: Is it more ethical to not do anything about diseases, or is it more ethical to use what you have and let the curing begin?
-
If you want to farm humans go ahead.
-
Then their the hot topic of the woman who just had a face-transplant........"Look Martha! Isn't that Joe? You know, Ednas dead husband who donated his vital body parts and organs to the Sapien Institute of Amercia?" Creppy!
-
hahahahahaI think it was Roy who had stem cells implanted in his spinal area to repair the damage, and it is working b/c the guy can walk...
