It didnt broaden my view on anything?

Does god exist?
-
To me, it is just a foolish belief to think that some things happen for a reason and others don't.
-
No one will ever know.
-
Do we have free will, as you've said, or do we live in a (fate-based) deterministic world?> Everything happens for a reason, whether we ever find that reason or not.How do you know that? What possible reason (i.e., justification) could there be for the genocides that keep happening, over and over? We now have better weapons and better communications, so it's becoming easier to do. What good reason could there be for genocide? How could a loving God, one who has his hand in our everyday lives, allow such a thing?
-
You ask way too many fuckin questions.
-
But then what is your reason for believing? Is it hope, did someone tell you that this is the way things are since your were young, does it seem logical to your for a particular reason? I guess I've never understood fate very well.
-
Who says we need reason? What is ur reason for not believing?
-
It's like a court case. You try establish everything through questioning so as to "paint" a picture of both sides so that the two opposing sides (and the judge/jury) can understand the minds and actions of the individuals who are different than they are. It's a way of understanding others, as opposed to stoning them to death because they're different.
-
I'm on the fence on these kind of things. I can't necessarily pick one way or the other. I won't ever be sure until one day when someone friggan' pops up on the news and says "fate determines life" or whatever the hell the other possibilities are. Now we are just back to the question of the meaning of life. No one f------g knows! And there's a good chance no one ever will!
-
If something good happens, its God's will or a miracle, but when something bad happens, its blamed on free will. Can God be wrong? Can He know what we are going to do? Yes, He may be aware of all possible outcomes, but does He know what choices we will make? If He does, then since He has a plan for us, He has already determined what we will do, as He not only knows what decisions we will make, but He created the choices in the first place. And then if everything is predetermined, what was the point in giving us free will?

My reason for not believing is that I try to find things that make sense to me to believe in. It doesn't make sense to me to believe in fate, divine beings, etc. because I don't see the reason behind why they would exist other than people devised these ideas to explain realities that were beyond their comprehension. I prefer to find out why through inductive reasoning rather than explanations that have nothing to support their existance. Edit: What I'm curious to know is why you DO believe what you do. I'm interested in your approach and I want to understand why you believe what you do, just as how I have my approach. Helps to broaden the mind and look at things in different ways.
-
Thats perfectly fine.. my beliefs are completely different. I guess Ive seen and experienced too many things to not believe
-
omg somebody close this stupid thread! it's past it's expiration date. Kristal, helms, angel, eddie, sdp, inlegible... if you guys really love us you'll have mercy on us and lock it downnnnnnnnnn.
SANCTUARY! lol no really do it
-
But what I'm asking is why? All I want to know is what is your reason for believing. I'm not calling you wrong, but rather I want to understand your opinion. All I keep getting is I believe because I believe, but never I believe because... insert complex or simple explanation here. Edit: damn discussion threads, I got 2 rates against me that dropped my stars just because I was questioning other people. Not that it's a big deal, but I've been at 4 stars for over a year now. Makes me think of the criticism some individuals receive when they speak out against public opinion. Whatever, this is a place of discussion rather than a popularity contest so I guess it's irrelevent.
-
I believe, because my life could have gone in so many horrible directions and God was all I freakin' had.
-
Sorry JF, this is in no way supposed to be against you, it is just a general thing. I've seen people requesting for threads to be closed and it just made me wonder. Why do people ask to have threads closed? Do people not think that the Mods know when a thread should be closed, or do they not trust the Mods' judgement? It is their job to decide if a thread is to stay open or not, it makes no sense to make such a request.
-
sometimes the member doesn't always agree with the mod
-
(I know I'm going to be hated for continuing this)What about Buddha? Did you have him? What about Zeus, wasn't he there for you too? What makes God the only thing you had over any other beliefs. This is my last question because I'm sure you're getting tired of me and I apologize if I've frustrated you. I'm one of those kids who annoys the class in physics because he keeps putting his hand up and questioning why everything works the way it does.
-
But when there are 11 Mods, does it not seem futile to disagree?
-
does it really matter. if a member asks a mod a requests about a certain thread they are uncomfortable with, the mods usually take the consideration to tell the people to calm down or they lock it. personally THESE are the type of things that drive people away from a2a.
