Who says we need reason? What is ur reason for not believing?

Does god exist?
-
It's like a court case. You try establish everything through questioning so as to "paint" a picture of both sides so that the two opposing sides (and the judge/jury) can understand the minds and actions of the individuals who are different than they are. It's a way of understanding others, as opposed to stoning them to death because they're different.

I'm on the fence on these kind of things. I can't necessarily pick one way or the other. I won't ever be sure until one day when someone friggan' pops up on the news and says "fate determines life" or whatever the hell the other possibilities are. Now we are just back to the question of the meaning of life. No one f------g knows! And there's a good chance no one ever will!

If something good happens, its God's will or a miracle, but when something bad happens, its blamed on free will. Can God be wrong? Can He know what we are going to do? Yes, He may be aware of all possible outcomes, but does He know what choices we will make? If He does, then since He has a plan for us, He has already determined what we will do, as He not only knows what decisions we will make, but He created the choices in the first place. And then if everything is predetermined, what was the point in giving us free will?

My reason for not believing is that I try to find things that make sense to me to believe in. It doesn't make sense to me to believe in fate, divine beings, etc. because I don't see the reason behind why they would exist other than people devised these ideas to explain realities that were beyond their comprehension. I prefer to find out why through inductive reasoning rather than explanations that have nothing to support their existance. Edit: What I'm curious to know is why you DO believe what you do. I'm interested in your approach and I want to understand why you believe what you do, just as how I have my approach. Helps to broaden the mind and look at things in different ways.

Thats perfectly fine.. my beliefs are completely different. I guess Ive seen and experienced too many things to not believe
-
omg somebody close this stupid thread! it's past it's expiration date. Kristal, helms, angel, eddie, sdp, inlegible... if you guys really love us you'll have mercy on us and lock it downnnnnnnnnn.
SANCTUARY! lol no really do it

But what I'm asking is why? All I want to know is what is your reason for believing. I'm not calling you wrong, but rather I want to understand your opinion. All I keep getting is I believe because I believe, but never I believe because... insert complex or simple explanation here. Edit: damn discussion threads, I got 2 rates against me that dropped my stars just because I was questioning other people. Not that it's a big deal, but I've been at 4 stars for over a year now. Makes me think of the criticism some individuals receive when they speak out against public opinion. Whatever, this is a place of discussion rather than a popularity contest so I guess it's irrelevent.

I believe, because my life could have gone in so many horrible directions and God was all I freakin' had.
-
Sorry JF, this is in no way supposed to be against you, it is just a general thing. I've seen people requesting for threads to be closed and it just made me wonder. Why do people ask to have threads closed? Do people not think that the Mods know when a thread should be closed, or do they not trust the Mods' judgement? It is their job to decide if a thread is to stay open or not, it makes no sense to make such a request.
-
sometimes the member doesn't always agree with the mod
-
(I know I'm going to be hated for continuing this)What about Buddha? Did you have him? What about Zeus, wasn't he there for you too? What makes God the only thing you had over any other beliefs. This is my last question because I'm sure you're getting tired of me and I apologize if I've frustrated you. I'm one of those kids who annoys the class in physics because he keeps putting his hand up and questioning why everything works the way it does.
-
But when there are 11 Mods, does it not seem futile to disagree?
-
does it really matter. if a member asks a mod a requests about a certain thread they are uncomfortable with, the mods usually take the consideration to tell the people to calm down or they lock it. personally THESE are the type of things that drive people away from a2a.
-
Why Do I believe? Why not? Ive seen too many miracles to not.. I turned to god when my best friend died.. I feel as though God was the one who stopped me from doing stupid things when I was depressed.. I believe because I have faith in life... we all know im no model christian.. but why shouldnt i have the right to believe?
-
I think kinda buddha, Zeus etc. are all based around the same one being. In the case of other religions with multiple Gods I'm not sure. Maybe there's a connection between them and the hierarchy of angels/ saints so on...Some things will never be known.
-
Of course you have the right to believe. I was just asking why you believe. I wasn't implying anything, just a straightforward question. No more questions though, I promised leelee
-
thank you is what i've been trying to say its an undescribale feeling it helps you look at the world with other eyes
-
Plus, not every thread that makes an individual uncomfortable needs to be closed. People who are really disturbed by a topic can just skip it. (I won't wager a guess as to why the devout people are the ones who want close threads.)
pinkranger4> You ask way too many fuckin questions.
I see. Sometimes it's a good idea to examine your dearly-held beliefs. If you're confident in your beliefs, it shouldn't be too disturbing. Have you thought much about the why-bad-things-happen-to-good-people quandary?
pinkranger4> What is ur reason for not believing?
That is not logical. You don't need a reason not to do something. You need a reason to do something. I could tell you that you'll become the prime minister of Canada if you eat a pound of dark chocolate every day. What would be your reason for not believing? Or I could tell you that I am God....
RobBob> [losing stars]
That says a lot about some of the people who are reading this thread, not about you. There are some people who would beat the crap out of you for saying what you're saying. In fact, there are some people who would kill you for blaspheming.
Jesus Himself was attacked for promoting unpopular ideas. Some things never change.

_Why do people ask to have threads closed? _
Mostly because they can't handle a civilized argument. Unless there are serious personal attacks and the thread is going nowhere, then it can be closed. Funny thing is those who usually ask for threads to be closed often constantly return to an upsetting thread and are often involved. If you don't like a topic, stay out!
